This morning I posted the good news that the Citi Prestige card’s 4th Night Free benefit now allows booking AAA, AARP, and military rates. Several people asked me about government rates. I had already sent that question to Citi last night, but I didn’t receive an answer until now. Here it is:
Unfortunately, we cannot book government rates or conference rates in conjunction with the fourth night free.
Bummer.
What about corporate rates?
This is from the same management that decided to send 1099s out when getting checking account bonus miles. So their understanding of the government is a bit juvenile.
But military and government are the same? How can they allow one and not the other?
Just what I was thinking. Very odd decision. Though I believe military rates are always good for members of the military on leisure travel, whereas many times the government rate says you must be traveling on govt business to get the govt rate. So, it’s very similar to a corporate rate.
Still disappointing. In a theoretical sort of way for me, though, since I don’t have the prestige (yet).
As a government employee I’ve never been asked for ID or papers when traveling. Most major hotel chains have also communicated to me (either formally or informally) that I can book government rates on leisure travel.
Confirmed w citi that wedding rates are also excluded, despite the restrictions not explicitly stating so
