Quick Thoughts
The pricing for this award sale will depend on your originating and destination airports, but the lowest pricing I found was 30,000 SkyMiles round trip, plus taxes and fees.
Those taxes and fees aren’t off-putting depending on the route. For example, from New York to Brussels you’re looking at $72 round trip, Chicago to Geneva is $71, Detroit to Zurich is $73, etc.
Something important to be aware of is that this lowest pricing is for Main Basic which is Delta’s nomenclature for basic economy. That means you’ll have to pay for a checked bag, seats are assigned after check-in, changes aren’t allowed, there’s a fee to cancel, etc.
It might therefore be better to book a Main fare. For example, when looking at the New York to Brussels route, here’s the pricing if traveling to Belgium on September 3 and returning on September 11:
As you can see, in this scenario you’d be redeeming an additional 10,000 SkyMiles round trip if selecting a Main fare, but for that you’d get a free checked bag in both directions, seat selection, the ability to cancel or change your flight, etc. If you’d need to check a bag, you’d be looking at a $75 fee in each direction with a Main Basic fare. Redeeming the additional 10,000 miles would therefore save you $150, plus it’d get you the other benefits and flexibility listed above.
If you have a personal or business Delta Gold, Platinum or Reserve card, you’ll also get a 15% discount which can drop the award price down to as low as 25,500 SkyMiles round trip for Main Basic.
It can often be hard to get decent value when redeeming SkyMiles, so this flash sale can be a good way of doing that. For example, for the JFK-BRU flights listed above, Delta is charging $632 for Main Basic and $872 for Main. That means you’d be getting almost 1.9 cents per point of value in Main Basic and exactly 2 cents per point in Main. For cardholders, you’d get getting even better value courtesy of the 15% discount.
This flash sale ends on Thursday August 28, so you’ll need to be book quickly if you’re interested.

Although Delta does disclose that there is a fee to cancel Basic Economy award tickets, In practice they fully refund miles and taxes on these tickets outside the 24 hour window. Ive made several speculative bookings in BE to Europe this past summer and was refunded for all of them. Not sure about cash tickets.
I was very excited, but no Spain it looks like.
Was excited for a second, but then I clicked through and its 48k miles from DC area and the travel dates are extremely limited in October (as in a one-week travel window). Only good thing is no fuel surcharges.
