Quick Thoughts
Doctor of Credit posted about this offer on Thursday, so I assumed my wife and I weren’t targeted for the offer because we hadn’t received an email about it. My wife received an email from Discover with an activation link for the offer a couple of days later though, so keep an eye out for an email from them in the coming days in case they send out another batch of activation links.
Based on the terms of the offer, this deal has been running since May 22, so there have presumably been several rounds of emails going out. That might mean that it’s not so much a targeted offer as one that everyone will receive….eventually.
If you do get targeted for this offer, it’s an easy $5 if you’ll be placing an order on Walmart.com anyway. It’s an especially nice offer seeing as Walmart isn’t available on many – if any – shopping portals right now.
If you don’t need to place an order of $50+ with Walmart in the next month, it’s presumably possible to simply buy a $50 Walmart gift card in order to trigger the statement credit. Walmart also sells other merchant gift cards as well as Visa and Mastercard gift cards, so those are alternatives if you’re not likely to spend $50 in-store or online at Walmart anytime soon. Walmart can be a little fussy about online gift card orders though, so they might cancel your order anyway. One thing that might help (but I don’t know for sure if it will) is to have a Walmart.com account set up before ordering with your Discover card already added as a payment method.
