Barclays sent out targeted spending offers last week for some cobranded cardholders that gives an additional 5 bonus points/miles per dollar on up to $500 of spend through the end of January.

The Deal

  • Earn 5 additional points/miles per dollar on up to $500 spend with targeted Barclays-issued credit cards.

Key Terms

  • Activate offer by December 15, 2025.
  • Valid on spending through January 31, 2026.
  • This offer is for select cardmembers and is not transferable. If your account is closed or you switch to another product during the promotional period, you may no longer be eligible for this promotion.
  • If you receive this offer and activate by 12/15/2025, you will earn 5 additional points for every one dollar ($1) spent on all purchases, less credits, returns and adjustments (“Net Purchases”) with transaction dates between 11/1/2025 and 1/31/2026, up to $500 in spend, for a maximum of 2,500 points.
  • Purchases in the specified reward categories must be submitted by merchants using the corresponding Merchant Category Codes (“MCCs”) in order to earn additional points. MCCs are categories used by merchants based on the goods and services they sell. Barclays uses the MCCs when creating the reward categories, however, we have no control over how merchants choose to be categorized and as a result, some purchases may not fall into the expected rewards category and will not qualify to earn additional points.
  • Additional points may not be earned if the merchant submits the purchase using a mobile or wireless card reader or if you use a mobile or digital wallet to pay for the purchase. Additionally, purchases made through third parties, including online marketplaces and resellers, or using a third-party payment account, will not earn additional points. Barclays is not responsible for merchant posting times.

Quick Thoughts

These are targeted spending offers that were sent out via email. My wife was targeted on two of her cards, with the subject line for both emails being ‘Activate today: Earn bonus points.’ They weren’t one-click registration from the emails though; instead, she had to log in to her Barclays account, click the ‘Offers’ tab and then scroll down to the specific +5 promotions and activate them there.

Although these spending offers have a relatively low spending limit of $500, they’re decent offers nonetheless for a couple of reasons. One reason is that they’re valid on all spend, not just in one or two specific categories.

The other is that the offers are for five additional points/miles per dollar, not a total of five points/miles per dollar. That means my wife will earn a minimum of 6 points/miles per dollar on the cards she was targeted on. It can get even better than that if the spending occurs in bonused categories.

For example, one of the cards she was targeted on was her Wyndham Rewards Earner Plus card. That offers 6x on gas and Wyndham stays and 4x on restaurants and groceries. The additional five bonus points per dollar make those 11x and 9x categories respectively on up to $500 of total spend which is excellent.

If you get the spending offer on a Hawaiian personal card that ordinarily earns 2x on groceries, gas, and dining, that makes it a 7x Atmos points card for $500 of spend.

Barclays often sends out a variety of spending offers on its cobranded cards, so it’s worth checking your cards to see if you’re targeted. Also be sure to verify the terms of your offer(s) in case they’re different to what’s listed above.

Nothing on my Hawaiian personal or AA Red card.

Andrew

P2 and I both have this on our Hawaiian personal cards, and I have this offer for the Barclays View as well (product change from the discontinued Uber card). No offers on Barclays AA Aviator cards or business cards.

Interesting related item, P2 has a Barclays offer for a personal loan to earn 1 Atmos point per dollar borrowed up to 35K ($35,000 borrowed). Barclays claims no origination fees and no prepayment fees in the marketing materials. Not sure if there is a requirement to hold the funds for a certain length of time but interesting to see you could earn rewards on borrowing and potentially paying the loan off quickly.

Nothing on my Barclays jetBlue card. Oh well.

do you think i will get the bonus points earlier than Jan 31? Was targeted for the offer but I plan on cancelling the card after the AF posts in December.
