BetMGM is the online sportsbook arm of MGM Casinos. As MGM and Marriott have a partnership, there is a current offer to earn bonus Marriott Bonvoy points by signing up for an account with BetMGM, linking accounts, and placing a minimum bet of $10. If you have an addictive personality, you’ll want to pass on this offer, but if not this could be an easy way to score some points on the cheap.

The Deal

  • BetMGM is offering 3,000 in Marriott Bonvoy points when you sign up, download their app, link your Marriott Bonvoy account, and place your first bet of $10 or more. Sign up by 4/14/25 to get an additional 2,000 Marriott Bonvoy points

Quick Thoughts

When the partnership between Hyatt and MGM ended last year, Marriott swooped in and launched a partnership with MGM. Among the aspects of that partnership is the ability to move points between Marriott and MGM / BetMGM (at an unattractive rate). I’m not surprised to see this tie-up between the online sportsbook and Marriott Rewards.

If online sportsbooks are legal in your state and BetMGM exists there, the offer is pretty simple: Sign up for a BetMGM account, make a deposit, download the BetMGM app to your iOS or Android device, link your Marriott and BetMGM accounts, place a bet of at least $10 and get 3,000 points Marriott Bonvoy points, plus an additional 2,000 Marriott points if you sign up by 4/14/25. Based on our Reasonable Redemption Value for Marriott Bonvoy points, the 5,000 points are worth about $38. That makes this a good deal even if you lose your $10 bet.

Keep in mind though that if you’ve never had a BetMGM account, the initial account opening offer gives you bonus bets back totaling the same amount as your first bet up to a bet size of $1,500. You only need to place a $10 bet to trigger this Marriott offer, and if that is your first qualifying bet and it loses, you’ll get a $10 bonus bet to use to try again. That said, more advanced users can do better yet with a strategic first bet.

If you live in a state that does not have a BetMGM presence, keep in mind that you can nonetheless sign up for and take advantage of this offer when you are physically present in a state that has online sportsbooks and where BetMGM exists. For instance, if you live in a state without online sportsbooks but you’ll soon travel to Pennsylvania, you could take advantage of the offer while you’re physically located in Pennsylvania (you don’t have to live in the state where you register / place your bet). The app uses geolocation information. To answer your next question, I think they have pretty sophisticated systems to detect and prevent folks from skirting the geolocation rules. In my experience, most online sportsbook apps will allow you to register for an account and deposit / withdraw money from anywhere in the US, but you’ll need to be physically located in a qualifying state to make any sort of wagering activity.

I want to reiterate my caution about getting into this deal if you think you could be predisposed to problem gambling. I have a (completely unproved and unscientific) theory that the “high” of chasing and finding a great award redemption doesn’t differ much from the feeling of a big bet winning. Don’t get in over your head with this stuff over 5,000 Marriott points. At the same time, the rewards can certainly be worthwhile for those who can manage wisely.

BetMGM is claiming this offer is only for residents of Michigan and no other state.
The terms and conditions do not limit the offer to Michigan residents, but they wouldn’t pay out the 5000 Marriott Bonvoy points.

Dave, can you clarify–are you stating you did the offer but no points were awarded? or postulating that BetMGM wouldn’t pay out the 5k bonvoy points. I haven’t done it yet, but wondering if I should save my $10!

Dave

That is correct. I joined, linked the Marriott account, transferred $10 into BetMGM and placed a bet. When I asked when I should expect to receive the points, they told me it was an offer for Michigan only. The terms and conditions didn’t state anything about it being specific to Michigan. (If you click the link, the upper righthand corner of the website shows “BetMGM Michigan”.

Kayexelate

Thanks. Seems like it’s not worth the $10 gamble

Dave

I heard back from BetMGM – the terms and conditions state “US promotional offers not available in DC, Mississippi, New York, Nevada, Ontario, or Puerto Rico.”

kayexalate

are you a resident of one of those states/territories listed?

Dave

I am a resident of New York

kayexalate

Hmm. maybe worth a try for me & P2 since we’re in CA

Frank

3k/2k deal seems dead. I just followed the instructions and only 1k offered. Pass.

Dan

I am confused, I signed up via this link, set up venmo, deposited $10, then downloaded the app. I logged in and there was a promo to earn 1,000 marriott points by linking my accounts, which I clicked on. Will I still qualify for the 5,000 points, or did clicking this link void the promotion you listed?

I honestly have no idea what will happen, or if bet MGM will be able to fix it. I did place the bet, though.

Pierre

I saw that too – I think that’s a promo in addition to the sign up bonus but I guess we’ll see (I made the $10 bet so I’ll report back if I think about it)

Alex

Do you need to make the bet and be in the state by 4/14 or just sign up by that time?

TravelGeek

I was wondering the same as I am not going to be in a qualifying state by 4/14 when the qualifying period ends.

the T&C include this:

”This Sports Promotion is open to new users who, at the time of wagering, are located in a state or jurisdiction in which the Promoter (as defined below) offers online sports wagering services, are at least 21 years old, are not on an exclusion or self-exclusion list, and who during the Promotional Period both (a) make a first deposit of at least ten dollars ($10.00) to their online BetMGM Sportsbook account (a “Qualifying Deposit”), and (b) place their first real money sports wager using their online BetMGM Sportsbook account (“Participant(s)”).”

So yeah, it looks like just signing up during the promotion period isn’t enough.
