Hyatt announced this week that they will have a partnership with Small Luxury Hotels of the World that will enable you to earn and use Hyatt Points at these properties, though there will be no reciprocal recognition of status. However, American Express cardholders can get free mid-tier status with Small Luxury Hotels of the World, which Doctor of Credit reports might even get you a free night for your birthday.
The Deal
- Get free “Inspired” (mid-tier) status with Small Luxury Hotels of the World if you are an American Express cardholder
- Direct link to this promotion
Quick Thoughts
It’s definitely worth giving this one a shot. Small Luxury Hotels of the World calls its loyalty program “Invited”. The Invited program has 3 tiers:
- Invited (1 stay)
- Inspired (1-5 stays)
- Indulged (6+ stays)
This partnership gives you free “Inspired” status. That gets you the following benefits (bold added to the especially valuable ones):
- Member Exclusive Rates
- Early Check-In (noon, based upon availability at check-in)
- Late Check-Out (3pm, based upon availability at check-in)
- Complimentary Wi-Fi
- Member Exclusive Promotions
- Daily Complimentary Continental Breakfast
- SLH Birthday Gift
- Room Upgrade (one category at check-in if available)
Early check-in and late check-out sound nice, but they are based upon availability. In my experience, those things are always based on availability when they aren’t guaranteed. In other words, status or not you can always ask.
However, daily free breakfast can be a nice benefit at some nice hotels. I’m not very familiar with the Small Luxury Hotels of the World, but I’d be pretty disappointed if a chain billing itself that way only offered a muffin and some coffee.
But the real benefit here could be the SLH Birthday Gift. Doctor of Credit reports that the birthday gift is a free night certificate. Of course, the terms state that you aren’t eligible for that if your status came from a partnership and you haven’t made at least one stay, but he has at least one report of a member who got it without a stay.
Set expectations low on this. Since you have to book via Hyatt to use or earn points, it’s certainly possible that status benefits won’t be recognized when trying to take advantage of the partnership. Furthermore, with the added attention on the program thanks to the Hyatt partnership, I would imagine that any chance of getting a free night certificate without staying will likely get killed quickly. But if you’ve got a birthday coming up this month and/or five minutes to spare to sign up and take a swing at this, it’s probably worth a shot. Of course, if you are interested in staying at their properties, this status could come in handy.

master card link at following post still works — https://www.pointhacks.com.au/amex-small-luxury-hotels-guide/
When I click on the direct link, I cannot see the landing page described above. Is this “deal” still available?
Yesterday, I clicked on the link and was able to upgrade my existing SLH membership from Invited to Inspired once I logged out and logged in. Then I logged off and closed the website. When I logged back in today, my membership had been downgraded back to Invited. Is there any way to contact Amex to get the Inspired status? I am planning a trip to an SLH hotel in a couple of months. Or is there another option?
Has anyone else lost their new status when they logged in a day later?
Worked for me this morning
Any idea how do get the Amex offer if you are already a member?
Planning to stay at one of these hotels in Paris using Ultimate Rewards. I’m assuming, like other chains, my status won’t be recognized if I pay with Ultimate Rewards??
I am afraid not.
Anyone been able to join recently? I’ve tried all 3 methods multiple times and just keep getting a technical error page. The young lady on that page holding all the inflatables makes it slightly easier to tolerate the error, but still it’s been pretty annoying…
The Birthday benefit no longer shows up on registration!
i have an upcoming stay at a hyatt regency. any chance they will recognize the SLH status and give me the free breakfast benefit?
No.
