OK, IHG, you win. The next time IHG Rewards puts points on sale, I’m buying big because we are once again seeing an incredible flash sale. As reported by Verylvke and Loyalty Lobby, IHG’s latest unannounced flash sale is pricing almost all available hotels at 16,000 points per night on August 5, 2023 only. That’s far in the future, but it’s a Saturday night, so this could work out well even for someone looking for a “staycation” night at a fancy place.
To be clear, this is happening all over the world. Loyalty Lobby and View from the Wing show examples in cities like New York, Sydney, and London. Properties are getting scooped up quickly, so not every place is available. However, where you can find properties available you can get an incredible deal.
If you bought IHG points when they were on sale for 0.5c per point recently, then 16K points would have cost you about $80. Booking the Kimpton Epic in Miami for $80 worth of points instead of the going rate of $569 per night before taxes and fees (it’s $676.93 all-in that night!) seems seems Epic indeed.
As I said on yesterday’s podcast, when you see an IHG flash sale like this, it’s time to drop what you’re doing and take a look. The two previous sales we’ve seen only lasted a few hours. Do not expect to return to this deal later today — this deal will likely be over soon. Book now and check schedules later.
[…] IHG’s website priced every hotel in its worldwide portfolio at 16,000 points. The catch was that the rate was only for a single night – August 5, 2023. […]
I got a night at the Kimpton Portland at 6:45am west coast time. Saw a bunch of other options in other cities too but then 15 min later the deals were gone.
I wanted charleston, but no hotels seem to be participating?
It’s over. I marked the post dead in the title almost an hour ago and it was already dead before that. Sorry you missed it!
How does anyone learn of the unannounced flash sales?
Best way is to religiously check blogs like this one and Loyalty Lobby.
Something else was going on with Charleston, as I did get Montreal and other other places were available. Thank for the heads up about this promotion.
Just booked king room premium with balcony Hotel Indigo on San Antonio river walk 10k points. A nice quick getaway for us.
Nice to have a Sunday morning award sale but those of us on West Coast time would have to get up really early to participate. 7:30 AM and there is nothing.
I’m in SD and I was up at 6:00 and was able to grab 1.
Early Bird gets the worm! 🙂
I’m in SD also and slept until 6:45 and didn’t read this blog until 7:30. All gone by then. We like to stay at the IC in San Diego.
These recent early-morning flash sales are unfair to us on the west coast.
Have searched multiple beach cities in the USA and have not found one for 16.000 points. What’s the trigger to find it ?
Looks like the deal disappeared about 20 – 30 minutes ago
I grabbed a not-yet-open Indigo in NYC. The date is near my wedding anniversary, and we live 20 miles away.
I find it very strange how the ihg reviews of many properties don’t jive with the ratings. Was so confusing, I opted for the new hotel.
Thanks!
Sale seems to be over.
Sigh, over already!! Saw a lot of LA hotels but by time I switch to account with more points, if is over!
If I’m short on points, does the system allow me to buy points on checkout? Thanks.
thanks. was just able to book several options in SoCal region.
Anyone book anything really killer or not immediately obvious like an Intercontinental / Kimpton in a megacity? Six senses property etc?
Nothing in NYC. Meh.
There were tons in NYC (including Kimpton / both Intercontinentals), just gone by the time you saw it I imagine.
I got the Crowne Plaza HY36 for 16k !!!
Dead. Booked NYC / LA / DC – now just have to pick which trip to take!
Looks like it is over. I got a speculative booking in at the Intercontinental Washington DC – the Wharf. We will see if I get to use it for our family vacation or not.
Should have gone ahead and booked the 4th too…it wasn’t on sale for 16K, but was down to 32K. It jumped to 80K now.
Booked DC – the Wharf too. I’m sure they’ll be frequent traveler meetups at all the desirable domestic US Intercontinentals next August!
Ha, same!
