With Marriott and SPG merging their rewards programs in August, there are countless questions about elite status transitions, credit card changes, suite upgrades, free breakfasts, and more. Check out our transition guide for answers.

As you know, Marriott is planning to merge the Marriott, SPG, and Ritz loyalty programs into one program by August 2018.  And while Marriott has done a pretty good job of answering lots of questions on their website (found here), plenty has been left unanswered.

To fill the gap, we’ve created a new resource page on this blog.  Please check it out here: Marriott SPG Ritz Transition Guide, or click on one of the guide’s topics:

Hi Greg,

I have a question concerning 2018 qualification for Platinum; the reason for asking is that currently I have 8 years SPG platinum with a combined number of nights since 1999 of well over 600. It states in the “what’s new members.marriott.com” site the following “And, if you’ve achieve Elite status in both Rewards and SPG in a single year, it will count as two years toward Lifetime status.”. I am not so many stays away from Platinum status this year concerning SPG so will qualify for this probably mid July.

My question is having secured my SPG Platinum status for 2018 will the nights which will be around 32 from SPG also be counted towards my Marriott Premier Platinum Elite status? I have currently have 9 nights with Marriott in addition to the SPG 32. So to qualify for both SPG Platinum and Marriott Premier Platinum Elite status in 2018 will I need a further 34 nights in either SPG or Marriott hotels or 66 nights in Marriott hotels to get the double Platinum credit? I am assuming that I will also qualify for an upgrade to Platinum Lifetime status in the new “one powerful program” as stated on the Marriott site having achieved the double this year? I am guessing that qualifying for Lifetime Premier Elite membership will be exclusively for Marriott members not SPG as well despite my qualifying at this status in 2018?

Thanks for clearing this up for me,

Tris

Yes nights that is fine because I am using the stay portion for SPG. My question was how the night total will be counted for Marriott qualification?

If I have three accounts, one each of Ritz / Marriott / SPG, will I be able to combine all three?
