Back in October, Marriott announced that they’d be extending the expiration date of free night certificates to August 1, 2021 which were originally due to expire in 2020 or up to July 2021.
That announcement said that the extension would be processed by December 11, but they’ve gotten it done a little early as the extended date is now showing. When logging into my account, a bunch of free night certificates which previously had an expiry date of January 31, 2021 are now showing as being valid through August 1, 2021.
In even better news, Greg had a 7 night travel package for category 6 properties and that’s been extended too. That wasn’t a new travel package, so if you’d been in the same situation and wondering if yours would be updated, check your account and you’ll hopefully get a pleasant surprise.
If I’m remembering correctly, when Marriott last updated the extension dates of certificates, the change got rolled out over the course of a day or two. If you’re not seeing the updated expiry dates in your account, that’ll hopefully change in the next day or two seeing as they originally weren’t due to have implemented the change until Friday December 11.
Had a Level 7 package before they changed everything. Got it extended twice, but will not do it again. We booked a Level 6 in Marathon, FL that got stellar reviews.
[…] chains have since extended the expiry dates once again, such as Marriott which has just extended certificates to August 1, […]
[…] Expiring Marriott Certificates & Travel Packages Have Now Been Extended Through August 2021 […]
[…] validity has now been extended. Personally speaking, I don’t have one of these but Greg over at Frequent Miler has just had his 7-night package extended to 1 August […]
It seems to be going alphabetically.
Disagree with your assessment “through August.”
Through August would be thru 8/31/21.
Until August 1, 2021 is a better and more accurate modifier as to what Marriott is doing.
Finally, it is not that generous an extension.
Hilton has extended certificates it has issued prior to 5/1/20 to 8/31/21.
All other certificates that are issued from 5/1/20 – 12/31/20 have 2 years to be used before their expiration. Furthermore, all certificates issued in 2021, will expire on 12/31/22.
Finally, Hyatt has extended all certificates until 12/31/21 (final check-out day).
Thus, Marriott’s extension is the stingiest of these 3 and is only better than IHG — who may further extend their certificates thru 8/31/21, if the rumor holds true.
So, let’s not applaud Marriott for anything……
If Marriott’s computers are going alphabetically, then they are up to “N” because my two certs have both been extended to 8/31 already.
Oops. Of course I meant 8/01 not 8/31.
My three now show 8/1/21 and last name is P___. This was especially good to see. These had been extended once before and I had been told they would not get the COVID extension (by two Marriott people). I got a screen shot in case they change something,
Now where is IHG – just late or totally at the bottom?
It is also a lot better than Radisson.
Nick,
Still a misleading heading, as evidenced by Joesph N’slp-up above. Have him change it so others aren’t lulled into believing it is 8/31/21 as Hilton did.
Also, as respects Radisson, isn’t everyone better than Radisson?????
I hope you and Greg have a Merry Christmas!
Keep up the fine work!
Hadley
Any update on IHG extending their free night certificates that are expiring Dec 31st? They were extended from the spring.
Nothing yet. There have been rumors they’re going to announce some kind of extension, but there’s not been any kind of official announcement yet.
Where would you find 7-day package cert? I looked through my account and cannot find it
My Titanium 40K cert still showing 1/31 expiration. Patiently waiting till Friday, hopefully they will get it updated.
I hope they just extend all of my certificates to 8/1, but if not I will use them up somehow. So far I’ve never let anything expire, even if I didn’t end up using it myself.
Does this mean I have to travel by the expiration date, or book by that date?
You have to stay by the expiration date.
7 night travel certificates stay by expiration date? Not what I have been told when I called Marriott in the past.
Not yet for me. Still show 1/31/2021. Supposed to extend this friday
Same for me. Hope it gets extended this week.
