Pre-pandemic we often saw round trip flights from the east coast to Europe for well under $300 in economy. In fact, for the 40k To Far Away challenge I booked a round trip flight from New York to Madrid for less than $240.
Given the current high oil prices, it’s felt like flights to Europe have gotten more expensive, but there are some deals to be had right now such as New York to Oslo from only $227 round trip on Air France.
The Deal
- Fly economy to Oslo from New York from $227 round trip.
- Direct link to example flights.
Key Terms
- Only available on select dates.
Quick Thoughts
Aldo shared this deal in Frequent Miler Insiders last night and it’s a great offer if you don’t mind booking a Basic Economy fare which only includes carry-on baggage.
Seeing as the flights are with Air France, you’ll have a layover in Paris which could range from 2 to 7.5 hours depending on which itinerary you pick. For a few dollars more, some dates are available on KLM instead, but given the current operational issues at Amsterdam airport and a scheduled layover of only 1 hour 5 minutes, I’d be a little wary of that option.
Some dates I found were in early September, so the temperature in Oslo should still be reasonable enough for getting out and about exploring the city of further afield in Norway.
Be aware that Norse Atlantic Airways also flies direct from JFK to Oslo nowadays and round trip in Basic Economy (Economy Light) can be had for a similar price. That has the added benefit of being a direct flight, although it doesn’t include a meal service. Some might prefer flying with Air France or KLM given they’re established airlines even if it does mean a layover in Paris or Amsterdam.
are you really flying Economy or Basic to EU???
Of Course not But the Dog ? V Bernie
I wouldn’t layover with the crazy delays we are seeing all over Europe but perhaps in September will be better
May and September for me always perfect and weather great too.
Remember u have the French Union to Deal with !! Almost very costly for Me once….
