Quick Thoughts
Flying Blue award pricing varies by origination and destination city, so there’s not any uniform pricing available. Award pricing can also vary from day-to-day, so there’s no guarantee that you’ll see the headline rates listed on the landing page for each of the eligible US cities.
There are discounted awards available though. For example, nonstop one-way flights in economy from Newark to Paris can be had from 11,250 miles + $59.90 in taxes and fees.
The same award pricing is available if visiting Athens, with the taxes and fees being slightly higher at $75.90.
If you want to fly from the west coast, you could fly nonstop from Los Angeles to Amsterdam for 20,250 miles + $59.90 in taxes and fees.
In the past, Flying Blue split out Promo Rewards listings by economy and business class pricing. However, in recent months they’ve stopped doing that and so now the landing page simply lists award pricing as “Starting from xx,xxx miles.” That makes it seem like the Promo Rewards are only valid on economy flights, but there is discounted business class award pricing out there.
For example, Newark to Paris is available from 41,250 miles + $189.50 in business class…
…while Newark to Athens is only slightly more expensive at 42,375 miles + $205.50.
There might be discounted business class awards from other cities too, although I didn’t have any luck finding any from Los Angeles on the handful of dates I tried.
Appreciate this article. Out of curiosity I looked up a CDG-JFK flight for the spring and found a direct flight (we already have flights connecting through LHR) on the day we want to return for 110K points for both of us…and I selected our seats for free! LOL.
