September’s set of Flying Blue Promo Rewards have been released. There aren’t many great options for those of us in the US, although they are offering a way to travel to Paris in Premium Economy using half the normal amount of miles. That said, you might do better booking a paid flight with Delta.
The Deal
- Use Flying Blue to fly JFK-ORY in Premium Economy for 22,750 miles OW / 45,500 RT.
- Direct link.
Key Terms
- Expires September 29, 2018.
- Book up to three months in advance.
Quick Thoughts
The first thing to note is that you’d be flying into Paris-Orly rather than Charles De Gaulle. It’s sometimes possible to include ongoing flights to another airport for only 1,000-2,000 miles, but Air France has limited destinations out of ORY.
It looks like award availability in October at the 22,750 level is non-existent (45,500 is the one-way cost):
November has some better award availability though:
The downside with this is that taxes and fees are pretty high. For example, a round trip from November 14-21 would cost 45,500 miles and $379.87 in taxes and fees.
Compare that to a paid flight on Delta in Comfort+. Round trip paid flights in November can be had for around $750. That’s $370 more expensive than with Flying Blue, but you’d not be burning 45,500 miles, plus you’d be earning miles on the flights. Note that the Delta flights are into and out of CDG rather than ORY.
These Flying Blue Promo Rewards therefore have the potential for some value, but check other paid options before booking anything.
