Update: It appears that this code does not work on many of the items listed in the link provided by Groupon. We are currently investigating.
Today only, Groupon is offering a $0 Deal Day. Customers can get $5 off any deal that costs $5 using code DEAL5. The terms state that this code is valid for 1 unit per transaction max and 1 Local Deal or Goods item per person.

I’m sure there are some good deals to be found, though be aware that many of the Groupon Goods items will have additional shipping charges.

wondering if the ‘local’ has to be a local seller of your item as well. So if their biz is in TX and you’re in OK, it isn’t “local” to you.
Would be interesting to see if an item works for some and not others.
Yeah, this one doesn’t seems targeted and doesn’t work for me.
I think it’s more way-off-target than anything else. I received the email in multiple accounts and the code doesn’t work on anything for me, either. I updated the title and post this morning to indicate that it is not working. Not sure if may be a temporary glitch, but I’m re-checking it periodically in case.

You should probably edit/clarify your post before more people waste their time like we did. I know you mention ‘local’, but when you provide a link of deals, one thinks those are the deals to chose from.
I’m working on it — that’s the link that Groupon gave me in the email. I had the same expectation everyone else did — that it worked on the items they linked to. Thank you to everyone for the comments so I can get this fixed.

Tried a digital magazine subscription and got the “does not apply” message as well. Probably limit it to Goods on which they can overcharge for shipping to recover the code $$…
That would be correct — as stated in the terms of the deal, it’s valid for 1 Local Deal or Goods item. A magazine subscription probably wouldn’t work.

Same here. “Sorry this code cannot be applied from this Groupon account. Make sure you’re logged into the same account thatreceived it.” In other words: I was not targeted for this promotion.
