Quick Thoughts
I first noticed the offer for 25% back store-wide before it went live last weekend and then I completely forgot about it until I passed by Walgreens a little while ago. I needed a few things, so I stopped in and pulled up my digital coupons to be sure that the 25% back store-wide was still active. I was pleasantly surprised to find that not only is the 25% back still active through today, but there was also a second coupon good for 10% back store-wide today that stacked with it. I bought a third-party gift card in the off chance that it would earn rewards and it didn’t, but even still if you value the Walgreens Rewards and are passing a store, it might make for some decent deals.
I live in a rural area and end up buying a lot of things at Walgreens that most people probably get more cheaply at a supermarket / Target / Costco, so Walgreens rewards can be useful for me. However, I said “can be” rather than “are” because the program has some limitations:
- Rewards expire one year after they are earned or after 6 months of inactivity
- Rewards can only be redeemed in the following increments:
- $1
- $2
- $3
- $4
- $5
- $10
- $20
- $50
That makes the rewards really annoying. For example, if you have $60 worth of rewards but you get to the register with $39.53 worth of stuff, you can only use $10 worth of rewards, or you have to find more things to bring you over the $50 threshold. You could presumably get the cashier to split things up into two purchases to get as close to $20 on each as possible, and then also find a filler to get the second order over $20 — but all of that dampens my enthusiasm. When you additionally consider the near impossibility in tracking which rewards will expire when, it’s just not the most rewarding program. Still, given that I shop there often enough, I have recently been trying to pay more attention to the rewards program.
In my case, I wanted to pick up some band-aids and Dramamine and things of that sort for an upcoming trip (and there isn’t enough time to order them from Amazon), so I was happy to pick up some extra rewards purchasing some things that I would have run up to Walgreens for either way.
I can confirm that the two offers stacked and the rewards from my purchase posted to my account within a minute or two of checkout. I’m not positive whether there is a waiting period to use the rewards. Since these two percentage coupons stack, I expect they would also stack with other coupons in the app. I just looked over my coupons and realized that I had meant to pick up a couple of things I missed, so I’ll be giving that a shot today also.
If you’re wondering which card would be best to use at Walgreen’s, you can see our Best Category Bonuses page and search for “drugstore” in the “Miscellaneous” section.
My final tip: The Nice! pizzas are anything but. You’ve been warned.
Wait, you forgot to buy pizza!
I bought something better with this deal. I was able to stack 30% online code with this 25% back rewards cash on Wednesday deal. Paid $97 for $168 worth Vitamins plus get $30 Walgreens Cash. Friday I picked up 2 Aveeno lotion ended up paid $11+tax get $10 W. Cash. The only one downside for Walgreens cash is you cannot get W. cash if paying W. cash. I value them as 75% real $$.
you’re not going to open the myWalgreens credit card?
