American Express has a slew of Amex Offers out today that are exclusively for consumer Platinum cardholders and Centurion cardholders with active accounts as of 11/1/2020. We’ve previously posted two of the best offers (BestBuy and The Home Depot). In this post you’ll find a full round-up, along with my thoughts about which ones are worth pursuing…
I’ve sorted the following offers roughly from best to worst (but beauty is in the eye of the buyer, as they say). All of these offers expire 6/30/2021…
- bestbuy.com®
- Spend $50 or more, get $50 back. Up to 2 times (total of $100). Get a $50 statement credit by using your enrolled Card to spend a minimum of $50 in one or more transactions online at bestbuy.com® by 6/30/2021. Limit of 2 statement credits (total of $100). See terms for exclusions.
- Notes: You can max out this deal and earn $100 back with a single $100 purchase!
- My thoughts: This is great. Essentially get $100 worth of items free from Best Buy online! Best Buy even sells some 3rd party gift cards which should work (despite the terms saying otherwise). Don’t try to buy Best Buy gift cards though because the charge will be from CashStar and won’t earn the rebate.
- HomeDepot.com – Ship to Home or Store
- Spend $50 or more, get $50 back. Up to 2 times (total of $100). Get a $50 statement credit by using your enrolled Card to spend a minimum of $50 in one or more eligible transactions online at HomeDepot.com by 6/30/2021. Excludes “Scheduled Delivery” shipping and in-store pickup. Limit of 2 statement credits (total of $100). See terms for exclusions.
- Notes: You can max out this deal and earn $100 back with a single $100 purchase!
- My thoughts: This is another great deal. Essentially get $100 worth of items free from The Home Depot online!
- Instacart
- Spend $250 or more, get $50 back. Up to 2 times (total of $100). Get a $50 statement credit by using your enrolled Card to spend a minimum of $250 in one or more transactions online at instacart.com or through the Instacart mobile app by 6/30/2021. Limit of 2 statement credits (total of $100). See terms for exclusions.
- My thoughts: If you shop through Instacart anyway, this is a solid deal for up to 20% back. Since Instacart marks up store prices, I wouldn’t do this just for the rebate if you’re not already an Instacart shopper.
- Goldbelly
- Spend $100 or more, get $50 back. Up to 3 times (total of $150). Get a $50 statement credit by using your enrolled Card to make a single purchase of $100 or more online at goldbelly.com by 6/30/2021. Limit of 3 statement credits (total of $150). See terms for exclusions.
- My thoughts: Goldbelly is apparently an online marketplace for “regional and artisanal foods.” I haven’t bought from them, but it might be worth trying for a 50% rebate on $100 spend. Please comment below if you have recommendations for or against Goldbelly.
- WineInsiders.com
- Spend $30 or more, get $30 back. Up to 2 times (total of $60). Get a $30 statement credit by using your enrolled Card to make a single purchase of $30 or more online at wineinsiders.com by 6/30/2021. Limit of 2 statement credits (total of $60). Excludes Refer A Friend promo codes at checkout. See terms for exclusions.
- My thoughts:
It looks like WineInsiders charges about $15 for shipping, so you should be able to use this deal to get a $15 bottle of wine for free, $30 worth of wine for $15, etc. Since this can be used twice, I’ll happily buy a couple of bottles of free after rebate wine. Based on what we now know about this deal, I’m going to pass on it entirely. See: Wine Insiders Amex Offer — Be Cautious With Stacking.
- Scribd – Book, audiobook, and podcast subscription
- Spend $9.99 or more, get $9.99 back. Up to 5 times (total of $49.95). Get a $9.99 statement credit by using your enrolled Card to make a single purchase of $9.99 or more online at scribd.com or through the Scribd mobile app by 6/30/2021. Limit of 5 statement credits (total of $49.95). See terms for exclusions.
- My thoughts: Since Scribd offers a one month free trial, this basically extends the free trial to 6 months if you sign up soon. I’m going to pass, but this could be a good deal for those interested.
- Home Chef
- Spend $50 or more, get $50 back. Get a one-time $50 statement credit by using your enrolled Card to make a single purchase of $50 or more online at homechef.com by 6/30/2021. Limit of 3 statement credits (total of $150 back) per Card Member. See terms for exclusions.
- My thoughts: If you’re interested in trying out this service or if you already subscribe, then this is worth pursuing. I’ll pass.
- The Container Store
- Spend $150 or more, get $50 back. Up to 2 times (total of $100). Get a $50 statement credit by using your enrolled Card to spend a minimum of $150 in one or more transactions in-store at The Container Store or online at thecontainerstore.com by 6/30/2021. Limit of 2 statement credits (total of $100). See terms for exclusions.
- My thoughts: If you’re going to buy from the Container Store anyway then this is a nice rebate! I’m going to pass.
- Samsung
- Spend $1,000 or more, get $200 back. Get a one-time $200 statement credit by using your enrolled Card to spend a minimum of $1,000 in one or more transactions in-store at Samsung Experience stores or online at samsung.com/us or through the Shop Samsung app by 6/30/2021. See terms for exclusions.
- My thoughts: If you’re going to buy a new laptop or something from Samsung anyway, then $200 back is a sweet offer. That said, this one doesn’t seem different from many other Amex Offers we see all the time.
- Avis Car Rental
- Spend $250 or more, get $75 back. Up to 2 times (total of $150). Get a $75 statement credit by using your enrolled Card to make a single purchase of $250 or more to pay for eligible rentals in-store at Avis Car Rental or online at avis.com/amexoffers by 6/30/2021. Limit of 2 statement credits (total of $150). See terms for exclusions.
- My thoughts: I’m very surprised that this is listed as an exclusive offer for Platinum cardholders. We see similar car rental offers all the time.
- Equinox Virtual Personal Training
- Spend $780 or more, get $130 back. Up to 5 times (total of $650). Get a $130 statement credit by using your enrolled Card to make a single purchase of $780 or more of an Equinox virtual personal training session package online at amexvpt.equinox.com by 6/30/2021. Not valid for purchases at equinox.com. Limit of 5 statement credits (total of $650). See terms for exclusions.
- My thoughts: $130 back from $780+ spend means that, at most, you can get 16.6% back. If you were already paying for this service, then you might as well go for it. I’m going to pass.
Home Chef: Sign up for swagbucks get $10, go to homechef they give you another $35 in swagbucks. Swabucks then lets you have $30 off 1st order, $30 off 2nd, $15 off 3rd and $15 off 4th. Sign up for 2 people, 3 meals a week. In 4 weeks you will pay $153.72 of which AMEX offer will cover $150. Out of pocket of $3.72 for 24 meals AND you will have 45 Swagbucks. You are getting paid to eat 24 meals as I see it!
Gets crazier if you can do 2 people mode. You can play with the math of 2 people @ 2x a week to drag this out to to a 5th delivery. When you get 5 weeks of deliveries you then can give 3 weeks to someone else and vice versa. Not sure if works in same household, but will for sure work if in another household.
To your quote, “ It looks like WineInsiders charges about $15 for shipping, so you should be able to use this deal to get a $15 bottle of wine for free”
This is not true. The terms mention that shipping does not count toward the $30 spend.
“Excludes voucher purchases, taxes and shipping costs “
I hadn’t noticed that, but I’ll bet you a bottle of wine that taxes & shipping costs will count anyway
Is that a guess or is it based on your experience?
Well…. it’s based on my experience with other Amex Offers, but after reading the comments in other posts it sounds like Amex somehow enforces rules with this one. Reports are mixed about whether taxes & shipping work, but the bigger problem seems to be that if you take advantage of any promotional pricing, they won’t pay out. After reading through these comments I lost interest in even trying this offer:
https://www.doctorofcredit.com/amex-offer-personal-platinum-wine-insiders-spend-30-receive-30-statement-credit-limit-60/#comments
About that wine..Hope you stand by your word
How will you send the wine to me?
Oh sorry, I meant “whine”. Darn typos.
Can’t really trust anything you say. You are not a man of your word
Actually, I don’t think the point about taxes & shipping fees has been proven yet one way or another. We only know that using a portal or promo will definitely invalidate the Amex Offer in practice. So, here’s how you’ll get your wine…
There is a 3 bottle minimum for any purchase, IIRC
wow, offers this good make me wonder if I should get the Platinum card (I’ve had a change in my financial situation that might make that feasible).
PERKNY takes off $40 off your Homechef order
Do these offers will work on additional card holders or only primary ,i do have 5 additional card on on my platinum
Log into the AU accounts to see if the offers show up there. If they do, then they should work.
3500 swagbucks for home chef
Nice!
UPDATE: The Best Buy and Home Depot offers can be maxed out with a single $100+ purchase. I’ve updated this post to make it clear that you don’t need to do two separate $50+ purchases.
Any data points on whether or not that is true for the Wine Insiders offer? (can you do one transaction for $60+ and get a $60 rebate?)
My bet is that it would work but I haven’t seen any datapoints
I bought $100 of stuff at Home Depot (for those who don’t need hardware stuff you can get Tide or cleaning supplies) but didn’t receive the credit notice. I did get it for BestBuy and the Container Store immediately. Any ideas what I can do?
Wait a while (several weeks, at least). It will probably post eventually.
I just purchased a chromebook for $200 on bestbuy.com and got a message from Amex saying Congratulations you have redeemed your Bestbuy offer and saved $100. Not sure why but it seems to be using both $50 credits on the same purchase. Will see how it washes out in a few days but that would be a pleasant surprise.
Yep, that’s how it works! I’ve updated this post to make that clear!
Since you recently opened a personal platinum account, do you know how long it takes to receive the card? (I have a temporary account number and apple pay but need the real card to register and enroll in amex offers.) Thanks.
I believe I got my card the next day. Note though that Amex is putting out lots of great offers that require that you were a card member as of Nov 1 2020 so it may be a while before you see great offers on your new card (other than the $30/month Paypal thing: https://frequentmiler.com/amex-adds-30-monthly-paypal-credit-to-platinum-card-for-6-months/)
Goldbelly is legit. It features higher quality and priced great restaurant food, from around the US. I have ordered a few times. Excellent gift choice, or personal. If you like food, and cannot travel, this is a win. Momofuku, Ess-a-bagel, On and on….cheers!
Also….this company helped to save restaurants that otherwise might be shuttered. Bonus.
Good to know, thanks!
[…] Offers for Platinum cards that were active as of Nov 1, 2020. See this post for more details. All of the following expire […]
The instacart deal will actually knock off most of the surcharge I pay for groceries
ordered a light pole with the Home Depot offer. I got the email verification about a minute or two after the order stating i’ve used my offer ($100). So a $100+ ship to home order will trigger both $50 offers.
Thanks for this DP, exactly what I was wondering!
Curious how this worked though… Did the email say you used the offer twice? Normally those emails just say congrats you used your offer
no prob! i needed to buy it anyway so it just made my decision easier going with HD rather than lowes or amazon.
no, it literally said “$100” – not an email for $50 and another one for $50. I honestly didn’t even think about it triggering both offers – was only expecting one $50.
Thanks for the data point! This would track with how other similarly written offers have worked in the past, but the way Greg wrote it above (2 $50 items) made me second guess my memory.
Greg, could use some advice what to get at Home Depot. Looks like their gift cards go through cash star……
maybe some home improvement items… like what the store is for?
I never shop at HD and just want to cash this out. I want a simple, minimal effort cashout rather than having to shop online.
minimal effort would be buying something for shipping or ship-to-store as the terms state
Yes, that is more effort than I want to exert. And, the danger is I’ll forget if I don’t do it now. Buying a GC is the usual way to make this stuff easy and painless……not actually shopping for merchandise!
I’m not aware of any good cash out options. In my case, if I don’t use it naturally by June I’ll stock up on batteries or something.
Yeah, the danger becomes forgetting…..if I don’t do it now, I’ll forget….
The 10x Platinum offers came out in early November, I think. So basically all of these offers are to try to keep older customers.
