Dan’s Deals is reporting a stacking promotion at JCPenney: Buy one, Get one 50% off on tons of different items stacking with 65% off $100 or more with coupon code 47GOSHOP. He is calling it a price mistake — I don’t know whether or not the promotions are intended to stack, but they are. The key is that you can not order more than 1 of the exact same item in the exact same size. As long as you don’t have any repeats in your cart, this should work.
A couple of examples:
Example #1: Shoes
The first thing I looked at was shoes, where I saw a pair of Stacy Adams two-tone wing tips. I actually have this exact pair of shoes — and I’ve had them since 1998 (mine are showing their wear). I’m not sure whether that says more about their longevity or my outdated sense of style, but I paid $95 for mine almost 20 years ago. They are still $95 today:
I added those shoes and a random pair of $80 shoes to my cart. This was not an effort to maximize — just to show how it works. In total, my cart looked like this before adding a coupon:
Then, apply coupon code 47GOSHOP to save 65% on $100 or more. My total for both pairs comes down to $45.94.
Additionally, ShopAtHome has 15% cash back at JCPenney.
After cash back (and before credit card rewards), that’s $39.05 for both pairs. I don’t know anything about the quality of pair #2, but the point is that the savings over retail prices is huge.
Example #2 – Clothes
You may notice that all of the prices are a bit inflated from normal store prices. However, if you’re able to stack both promos, the prices still come out great. For example, I put 2 shirts and 2 pairs of pants in my cart (totally random styles/colors/sizes, not something I’m really going to order) and the total for all of it with the coupon comes out to $45.14 before cash back ($38.37 after cash back).
Pants at $13.12 per pair and shirts at $9.45 are a great deal. Again, quality may not be top-notch, but the price is right.
Other items
Dan’s Deals has a great clickable list of categories. I encourage you to see his post if you’re looking for more direction. Here, I’ll link to just the following broad categories:
There are lots of great items available at great prices.
A little more savings
After placing my first order, I realized that I had some Five Back Visa Gift Cards. JCPenney is one of the merchants that earn 5% back with those gift cards. I bought these at Office Max during one of the instant rebate sales, so I had already paid under face value and will now get 5% back (automatically credited back to the Visa gift card in a few days). If you have any of these gift cards, this could be a great way to use them and stack a little more savings.
Final Word
Again, don’t put 2 of the exact same thing in the exact same size in your cart and the promotions should stack. Portal terms at ShopAtHome indicate that cash back is not paid out on purchase or redemption of gift cards. Reports in our Laboratory are mixed, but I probably wouldn’t risk buying gift cards to stack. This stacking promotion probably won’t last long — if you’re interested, shop now. Just please don’t everyone buy those Stacy Adams before I finish filling my cart :-).
[…] night, we posted about a great stacking deal at JCPenney. There were some amazing prices available by stacking promotions that perhaps weren’t […]
Bottom line is I bought 2 pair of work boots that combined were priced @ $180. My final cost was $54. Nice deal especially since I need the boots! Thanks for the heads up!
The coupon is VERY misleading anyway— if you click on it, you’re re-directed to categories that are baked into the fine print that aren’t included in the discount. You’re given the impression that certain items are included, but then are not, including all of men’s underwear, all of men’s sock’s, all of women’s bras.
Had my order confirmed, then immediately a cancellation email from JCPenney.
So glad I didn’t purchase a gift card, or would have been stuck with a JCPenney Gift Card for a chain that will be out of business by 2020, or sooner, thanks to Amazon and others.

Is it dead? Coupon code says not applicable
Not sure if it’s dead but I did run into exclusions. Couldn’t apply to Disney, Nike, Adidas, Hosiery. I had to find what worked.
No, it’s not dead. I just put the two pairs of shoes from my first example in my cart and applied the coupon — still comes down to $45.94. As Mike said, there appear to be some exclusions. Still works on a wide range of products though. One thing to note: You do need 2 (or 3) of a similar item to get the BOGO 50% off to trigger. For example, you can’t mix a BOGO 50% off pair of shoes with a pair of pants. You’ll need two similar pairs of shoes or two similar pairs of pants, etc. I’m not sure how similar they have to be — for example, my shoes in the first example aren’t the same brand, but both came from the “dress shoes” category. However, I tried two totally different pairs of shoes from the casual category for my wife and it wouldn’t work. In the end, I bought her the same shoe in two different colors. We’ll find out what happens if we return one item. As the order confirmation is just showing each item proportionally discounted, I think we may just be able to return the pair she didn’t want and keep the discount on other items.
Incidentally, I’m not sure exactly how their BOGO 50% off pricing scheme works. If you look at my shoes example, the Stacy Adams were $95 and the other pair were $80. That should have come out to $135 before the coupon ($95 + half of $80). However, somehow it came out to $131.25….and then took 65% off of that.
Not sure where their math comes from, but I like it. Anyway, not dead. You may have just run into some excluded products.
Thanks!! Now let’s hope for no cancellations!
thanks for the tip. Just bought our baby six pairs of shoes he will grow into. $7 a pair, lol.
Great idea!
