Great Stacking Deal at JCP: BOGO 50% off PLUS 65% off $100 or more plus 15% cash back

9

Dan’s Deals is reporting a stacking promotion at JCPenney: Buy one, Get one 50% off on tons of different items stacking with 65% off $100 or more with coupon code 47GOSHOP. He is calling it a price mistake — I don’t know whether or not the promotions are intended to stack, but they are. The key is that you can not order more than 1 of the exact same item in the exact same size. As long as you don’t have any repeats in your cart, this should work.

A couple of examples:

Example #1: Shoes

The first thing I looked at was shoes, where I saw a pair of Stacy Adams two-tone wing tips. I actually have this exact pair of shoes — and I’ve had them since 1998 (mine are showing their wear). I’m not sure whether that says more about their longevity or my outdated sense of style, but I paid $95 for mine almost 20 years ago. They are still $95 today:

I added those shoes and a random pair of $80 shoes to my cart. This was not an effort to maximize — just to show how it works. In total, my cart looked like this before adding a coupon:

Then, apply coupon code 47GOSHOP to save 65% on $100 or more. My total for both pairs comes down to $45.94.

Additionally, ShopAtHome has 15% cash back at JCPenney.

JCPenney 15% back

After cash back (and before credit card rewards), that’s $39.05 for both pairs. I don’t know anything about the quality of pair #2, but the point is that the savings over retail prices is huge.

Example #2 – Clothes

You may notice that all of the prices are a bit inflated from normal store prices. However, if you’re able to stack both promos, the prices still come out great. For example, I put 2 shirts and 2 pairs of pants in my cart (totally random styles/colors/sizes, not something I’m really going to order) and the total for all of it with the coupon comes out to $45.14 before cash back ($38.37 after cash back).

Pants at $13.12 per pair and shirts at $9.45 are a great deal. Again, quality may not be top-notch, but the price is right.

A little more savings

Five Back Visa Gift Card

After placing my first order, I realized that I had some Five Back Visa Gift Cards. JCPenney is one of the merchants that earn 5% back with those gift cards. I bought these at Office Max during one of the instant rebate sales, so I had already paid under face value and will now get 5% back (automatically credited back to the Visa gift card in a few days). If you have any of these gift cards, this could be a great way to use them and stack a little more savings.

Final Word

Again, don’t put 2 of the exact same thing in the exact same size in your cart and the promotions should stack. Portal terms at ShopAtHome indicate that cash back is not paid out on purchase or redemption of gift cards. Reports in our Laboratory are mixed, but I probably wouldn’t risk buying gift cards to stack. This stacking promotion probably won’t last long — if you’re interested, shop now. Just please don’t everyone buy those Stacy Adams before I finish filling my cart :-).
