Quick Thoughts
When they first launched Chase Offers a few years ago, the maximum cashback earnings was often pretty low. They’ve improved in recent years though and so now we see more generous offers like this one that gives 10% back on up to $540 of spend.
It’s always important to read the terms of offers though and this one is no exception. That’s because it’s only valid on purchases made from HomeDepot.com rather than in-store. On the positive side, that does mean you can earn cashback/rewards by clicking through from a shopping portal. Portals tend to have tiered rates for Home Depot, with certain categories offering pretty generous returns – you can find the current rates here.
Lots of gift cards on the website- please let us know if the 10% gets credited
Why don’t you do it yourself and let everyone know?
Went and bought gift cards instore after missing the online only in the terms. 🙁
Do gift cards trigger the discount?
Do the terms say gift cards are excluded? Even so, gift card purchases often trigger the cash back if the merchant processes the gift cards themselves as opposed to using a third party gift card company. At the end of the day, just be the data point you want to see..:)
I recently tried purchasing a gift card at OfficeDepot.com using a similar promotion and found it was processed by a 3rd party, making it ineligible for the cash back. I suspect that’s the reasoning behind a lot of these “online only” promotions.
I bought $100 GC online just now. I’ll report back if I receive the 10%. I have this one on like 15 of my Chase cards so lots of chances 🙂
Did it trigger?
Ok, the 10% discount posted today for a $100 home Depot GC purchased online 5 days ago.
Wow, that’s unexpected! I wonder if it would work with other gift cards too – I assume so.
I have had 2 more GC online purchases trigger the offer. Home Depot doesn’t appear to sell any other brand of gift cards on its website
I see quite a lot of options: https://www.homedepot.com/gift-cards/specialty-cards
