Here in the US, we love our Costco…and with the company’s massive foray into the world of gold sales, at prices that are often significantly lower than many dealers, folks are loving Costco even more now.
Regardless of whether you’re in the market for a first time Costco membership, or looking to add another one to expand your 2% Executive member rebate capacity, Costco is currently offering a terrific promotion that could be very appealing.
For the next month, you can potentially get a Costco membership that’s almost free by stacking a targeted $20 Chase offer with a Costco promo that gives a $40 Costco card and a $60 coupon good on $200+ in online purchases when buying an Executive Membership. (h/t: DOC for Costco promo)
The Deals
Costco is running a promotion when you buy a new Costco membership using the promo code CJGPNMBR at checkout:
- Get a $40 Costco Shop Card when you buy a $60 basic Goldstar membership
- Get a $40 Shop Card and $60 discount coupon on $200 order at Costco.com when you buy a $120 Executive Membership
- Expires 10/6/24
- You’ll see a deduction for $0.01 that lets you know that the code has been applied.
- You must enroll in auto-renewal to receive incentives (this happens automatically when you enter the credit card online, I believe)
- Terms say that you must use a Visa card, but it seems like you can use any card that Costco accepts online – YMMV
Direct Link to Offer (Groupon)
- Stack the Executive Membership deal with a targeted Chase offer that gives you $20 back of $60 or more when buying a new Costco membership
- note that this will most likely NOT work with the basic membership since the applying the promo takes the cost down to $59.99
- Expires 8/31/24

- To receive a Digital Costco Shop Card, you must provide a valid email address and set up auto renewal of your Costco membership on a Visa®️ card at the time of sign-up.

- Valid only for nonmembers for their first year of membership. Not valid for renewal or upgrade of an existing membership.

- Digital Costco Shop Cards are not accepted at Gas Stations, Car Wash, or Food Court Kiosk.

Quick Thoughts
This promo is a good deal on its own, but for those targeted with the Chase Offer it gets even better.
Including both the Chase Offer and the Groupon promo, you get:
- $20 back, a $40 Costco Shop Card and a $60 coupon good towards an online order of $200 or more when you buy a $120 Executive Membership.
While that’s not “free” because you have to spend money at Costco to use the gift card and the coupon, for me it’s almost as good as cash.
My wife was targeted for the Chase offer on one of her Ink Business Preferred cards and we just maxed out our yearly $1,000 max on the 2% Executive rebate. This allowed us to sign-up for a second membership and add another $1k to our household total. Starting September 1st, that annual maximum goes up by $250, so we’ll have $2,500 total between both memberships…something I’m thrilled about.
If you’ve been thinking about joining Costco or if you’ve been looking to add a bit more space to your annual 2% rebate (like I was), this is a no-brainer opportunity to get off the fence and try it for a year.
If you are signing up for a second Executive Membership, make sure to use a different e-mail and phone number than what’s associated with your current one. Costco won’t let you use the same info on two memberships.
The groupon link says not available and the coupon code didn’t work for me on the Costco website
Thanks for the heads up. I’ve marked it expired. The Groupon Costco deal now requires you to pay via Groupon so there’s no way to stack the Chase Offer.
Would I still qualify if I was an additional card user on someone else’s Costco card?
Has anyone’s Chase Costco offer disappeared? I could of sworn I saw one in my Chase Freedom Flex yesterday (I remember because I thought to myself how could I use a MC at Costco?). But today I look at my offers and it’s nowhere to be found!
Signed up with auto renew but never received shop card or coupon. I was a member 3 years ago but let the membership go. I signed up yesterday using the promo code in thos post. Does it take time before the email offer comes in?
Based on the terms, it could be up to two weeks.
Thank you Tim. I appreciate it
The price goes down to 59.99 after applying the coupon and for Chase promo to kick in the amount should be 60$ or higher.. so it may stack for Executive membership but for Gold I don’t think it will stack up
Where do you see on the Chase promo that the amount should be $60 or higher? That’s not in the terms on the offer that I have.
It says on the offer itself ” 20$ cashback Spend 60$ or more”
The T&C does not have that restriction may be because they already called that out
Jeez, you’re right. Talk about missing the forest for the trees. I’ve edited that out.
you might want to edit this post – I almost pulled the trigger and would not have rec’d the $20 off chase offer as it’s $59.99.
I already did right after the post was published. Which part was confusing?
Costco is big in a few other countries.
Int’l locations per wiki
More stores per capita in Canada then USA.
Sizeable in Taiwan considering geographic area / density. Kirkland signature products sold in many non-Costco stores. Equivalent to ~190 stores in USA based on population alone.
18 is a lot for South Korea – considering country size / density. Equivalent to ~120 locations in USA on a strictly population basis. But again — since it’s a denser / smaller country.
I’m guessing Mexico locations concentrated in denser areas…so many big-city dwellers perhaps familiar with Costco. Though not as numerous by any means as Wal-Mart. [Did you know 24% of Walmart’s revenue is International. I just learned that.]
15 in Australia for a population of 27 million. Would be equivalent to ~180 locations in USA. But considering population is concentrated in just a few areas….I’ve driven by a Costco in Perth-area for example.
My God, 1k done @2% is 50k spend. I thought we were nuts spending a lot at Costco, but we have never maxed out or even come close.
Are you MSing using Gold bars??
lol… I have sent stuff from Costco to buying groups and I maxed out my $1k in the first 3 months. And I didn’t buy a single gold bar. Mostly just Apple devices.
Did you send it to buying groups directly or send it to your residence first?
I dabble in a bit of gold, but also do buying groups for gift cards and merchandise.
No Hawaii, wah, wah, wah!
That’s only for the Chase offer, not for the Costco promo, just FYI. You could still get the $40 Costco Cash card back and the $60 coupon. The only thing that you wouldn’t get is the $20 statement credit – which does stink. 🙁
Thanks for the reply! I mis-read that part of your post.
