It’s possible to use Hyatt awards to book right into suites, often at good value. But…there are roughly 4 different ways to do that (and nuances to each of those ways!)

To the “there’s no IT in Hyatt” refrain, I did the LP Points upgrade at the Hyatt Regency Barcelona in April. It was supposed to be 30,000 points + 1000 euros for 5 nights, and they only charged me 185 euros! Lucky for me, I earned Hyatt points at the 1000 euro price and not 185. I checked multiple times in an effort to be honest with the price I was quoted at booking and they were adamant I was only responisble for 185 euro. Lucky me!
I could have missed this, but important caveat when using the LP Points upgrade (standard room rate + 6k points). The “standard room rate” is only valid at a non-resort property. At a resort property, the LP Points upgrade rate is a Deluxe room rate (usually significantly more than the standard room rate) + 6k points.
Could I use a SUA if a suite is available but a standard room is not available to book at what would have been the cost of a standard room, then apply the SUA and end up with a suite?
Do we have to pay taxes/fees when booking cash+points, regardless of status?
Thanks for the video. I learn something new everyday.
