Hyatt cardholder promo: Earn 5k bonus points when making 3 months of recurring payments to 3 service providers

3

Hyatt cardholders are being targeted with the opportunity to earn 5,000 bonus points when making three consecutive monthly payments via recurring payments to three different service providers. While that might seem like it’s not worth the hassle of changing payment methods with all those service providers, the bonused spend categories on Hyatt cards can make this a more interesting prospect.

Hyatt cardholder recurring payment promotion

The Deal

  • Earn 5,000 bonus Hyatt points when setting up and making at least 3 monthly recurring payments with 3 different service providers for 3 consecutive months by June 30, 2025 in the following categories:
    • Fitness clubs & gym memberships
    • Internet, cable & phone services
    • Local transit & commuting
    • Utilities

Key Terms

  • To qualify and receive this one-time bonus, you must set up and make at least three recurring online bill payments with your World of Hyatt Credit card with three different service providers in the specified categories over three consecutive months (that’s a total of at least nine recurring online bill payments).
  • All payments must be completed by June 30, 2025 at 11:59pm CT.
  • All points awarded under this offer are Bonus Points.
  • This bonus offer is non-transferable and applies only to World of Hyatt cardmembers who receive marketing communications for this offer.
  • For this offer, qualifying transactions are defined as recurring online bill pay transactions made using your eligible World of Hyatt Credit card with service providers classified as merchants category code that falls under any of the following merchant categories: Internet, Cable & Phone Services, Utilities, Fitness Clubs & Gym Memberships, and Local Transit & Commuting. Please note: We make every effort to include all relevant merchant category codes. However, even though a merchant or some items that it sells may appear to fit within a category, the merchant may not have a merchant code in that category. When this occurs, that transaction with that merchant won’t qualify.
  • To qualify, the transaction must: (i): be completed using the World of Hyatt Credit card referenced in this communication; (ii): be identified as qualifying transactions based on the information available on Visa’s proprietary network (VisaNet); and (iii) post to the World of Hyatt Credit card account referenced by June 30, 2025.
  • Bill payments made in person will not qualify.
  • This bonus offer is subject to the complete terms and conditions of the World of Hyatt program available at Hyatt.com/terms and may be modified or cancelled at any time and without notice.
  • After qualifying, please allow 6-8 weeks for Bonus Points to post to your World of Hyatt account.

Quick Thoughts

This appears to be a targeted promotion because both my wife and Nick received an email about the offer, but I didn’t. The terms reference the fact that you need to have received a marketing message about the offer and there’s no registration link, so if you didn’t get an email, it’s probably safe to assume you’re not eligible.

Having to change payment method for three different service providers and making sure three payments are made for each one on consecutive months seems like a fair bit of hassle for 5,000 bonus points. Having said that, depending on the other cards you own this might be worth the effort.

The reason why is due to the bonus categories on Hyatt cards. For personal Hyatt cardholders, you can earn 2x points on payments to local transit and fitness clubs and gym memberships (among others). Those two are eligible categories for this offer, so earning 2x Hyatt points plus 5,000 bonus points after three monthly recurring payments to three service providers makes this a better prospect.

If Hyatt business cardholders have been targeted for this offer, they could come out even further ahead. Fitness clubs and gym memberships are a 2x category, while you can also earn 2x on your top three spend categories which includes local transit and commuting, as well as internet, cable and phone services (among others). That means Hyatt business cardholders could earn 2x points in all three eligible categories.

This all depends on what other cards you have, how you value various points and miles and the size of your monthly recurring bills though. For example, the Chase Ink Business Cash card not only earns 5x Ultimate Rewards on office supply store purchases, but internet, cable & phone services payments too. If you have a sizeable payment for one of those services each month, it could make more sense to earn 5x Ultimate Rewards on the Ink Cash card than 2x on a Hyatt card and having one of three categories covered towards the 5,000 bonus points.

Other factors to consider are the big spend features on Hyatt cards. On personal cards, you earn two elite night credits for every $5,000 you spend and a category 1-4 free night certificate when spending $15,000 in a calendar year. The spend on these recurring payments will count towards those which might be an incentive to put this spend on a Hyatt card.

How would they know if the payments were set up as recurring vs 3 consecutive manual payments?

Darlene

Can it be with a service provider that you had set up recurring payments already before this promo. I’m thinking of my gym. Thanks.
