Quick Thoughts
It’s a little disappointing that this 20% points rebate promotion is limited to Hyatt’s Thompson brand because there are currently only 19 of those properties. We had a terrible stay at the Thompson Nashville a couple of years ago, but many Thompson properties are highly regarded and so might be on your radar.
Due to their quality, most Thompson hotels are in higher category levels and so a 20% rebate can save you a decent number of points. Note that there’s a limit of 30,000 rebated points per transaction, so a stay will max out the rebate when redeeming 150,000 points. If your stay would cost more than that, you could hopefully book two separate stays to get around that per-transaction limitation, but I don’t know what would happen if the hotel happened to merge the reservations.
Not all Thompson properties cost 25,000-30,000 points per night at the standard level though. The cheapest points option is the Thompson Playa del Carmen Main House in Mexico which is a category 3 property and so only costs 12,000 points per night at standard rates. With this rebate, you’d therefore be paying a net 9,600 points per night on standard rates.
There are currently two category 4 Thompson properties – one in Chicago and the other (Gild Hall) in New York City. That latter property is due to go up to category 5 when Hyatt implements their category changes next week, so you’ll want to book that one in the next few days to lock in the lower price if you’re interested.
Be aware that this promotion comes in the form of a points rebate rather than a points discount. That means that you’ll need enough points in your account to cover the full cost of your stay. The terms state that you’ll receive the rebated points 6-8 weeks after your redemption, but I don’t know if that should state 6-8 weeks after your stay or not. If it is 6-8 weeks after your stay rather than your redemption date, that could mean you don’t get the points back until early August depending on when you book your stay.
Made a Guest of Honor booking for Thompson Central Park that will be completed during the promo period. Who will get the point rebate? The Globalist or the GOH?
It should be the Globalist member seeing as they’re the one who redeemed points. Whether or not that will be processed automatically is another matter though. This might be something that the Globalist member will need to follow up on via their concierge or Hyatt Concierge on Twitter.
Thanks for the info!
Like you do with gift card deals, can you include a history of Hyatt credit card holder promos on this and future similar posts?
With the gift card deals, we republish the same post each time (e.g. we have separate posts for Visa and Mastercard deals at Staples) but amend the promo dates. We therefore add the historical dates at the bottom of those posts just so that we don’t lose a record of when those deals have run in the past.
With these Hyatt cardholder promos, they’re often different types of deal and so we publish a brand new post each time rather than republish the same one. Those older offers are therefore still available to view on the site, so that’s why we don’t list them at the bottom of the page for future offers.
Thanks for the explanation!
Just finished up a stay at the T Savannah – what a fantastic property in every area. Best rooftop patio/bar & views of any hotel in Savannah (& there are a few in close competition). I am going to rebook with this discount, thanks!
Damn, have a three night points stay at the Thompson Central Park starting tomorrow!
What was your beef with Thompson Nashville? Pre COVID, it was my go-to in Nashville, both before and after the Hyatt acquisition. Always loved it and have a stay coming up in May.
We only had a one night stay, but the service was awful all-round. The valet seemed to deliberately blank us when we arrived, perhaps because our 2004 Toyota Corolla meant we weren’t worth attention. We therefore had to ask for him to take care of our car and it seemed like we were an inconvenience to him.
The front desk staff weren’t much better and it felt like they thought we weren’t worthy of being there. I also had to ask how Globalist benefits like free breakfast worked because they didn’t share that, nor did we get a room upgrade. Once we were checked in, other guests had all their luggage taken up to their room for them, but that was never offered to us.
That evening we wanted ice, but they don’t let you get ice yourselves – you have to call the front desk and have it brought to you, but that took 2-3 hours to arrive.
When checking out, we then had to ask them to take off the breakfast and parking charges as those should’ve already been waived due to my Globalist status.
Things like the charges not being removed and weird ice situation weren’t big deals. It was their staff’s general attitude and sneeriness that I didn’t care for. We had interactions with their staff four times during our stay (valet, check-in, ice and check-out) and all four interactions ended up being poor for one reason or another.
