There is a new targeted but widely-available Amex Offer out today that’s good at Intercontinental and Kimpton hotels [enrollment required] whereby you’ll get $75 back when you spend $300 or more. This could obviously be useful if you have a stay coming up and/or if you are one of the many who bought Ambassador status last year but you haven’t yet used your annual weekend “free night” coupon. Note though that this one is only good for select properties in the US, Thailand, Singapore, the Maldives, Japan, Indonesia, and Australia.

Quick Thoughts
This is a solid offer for those with an upcoming stay at one of the properties in the list (which at first glance seems to include most of the Intercontinental and Kimpton properties in the US that immediately came to mind). If you’re able to find a qualifying stay, this is like effectively getting back 25%.
I don’t yet have any stays planned with these brands during the offer period, but I purchased Ambassador status last year and I haven’t used the “free weekend night” coupon that comes with that status. I should be able to stack that with this, so I’ll take a closer look now at whether one of these properties could work out for our purposes.
On this past weekend’s podcast, we talked about rolling your own hotel elite status by taking advantage of ways to get elite perks without elite status. Keep in mind that all of the Intercontinental properties (and likely some of the Kimpton ones) participate in the IHG Luxury & Lifestyle Preferred Partner booking program — and with that program, you would be booking directly with IHG and paying at the hotel and as such you should be able to stack with this offer as well. That would give you guaranteed 2pm late checkout, complimentary breakfast for 2, and a $100 property credit among other benefits (along with earning IHG points and elite credit). That could make for a great stack.
