UPDATE: We’re not seeing the same award space through other partners, and AA is unable to book the first class awards that it is showing. This seems to be an AA bug.
Original post follows
Japan Airlines First Class 777-300ER
I found first-class award space to be wide open for 2 adults in spring 2021 on two particular routes and in both directions:
- Tokyo Haneda (HND) – New York (JFK)
- Tokyo Haneda (HND) – San Francisco (SFO)
Flights between the US and Tokyo can be booked with 70,000 Alaska miles or 80,000 AA miles one-way.
[…] award space for Japan Airlines First Class has been seen on AAdvantage online search in April 2021, but it is not […]
Is Japan even allowing Americans into the country? Thought no toursits were allowed?
I’m assuming that by April 2021 they will allow us in.
That’s a big assumption. I’ve read Austraila or NZ isn’t planning on opening up until 2023
A few weeks ago I was able to book a one-way F on JL in 3/21 with AK miles to HND. I have seen absolutely no JL F space available from Japan to anywhere in the US in 4/21 during daily searches the past month. I read on one blog that AK is not releasing F on JL until 300 days prior to departure (rather than the customary 330). I realize that JL is one of the most unpredictable airlines when it comes to the timing of F class award space release, but I’ve never seen it this sparse before.
Yeah, doesn’t look like AS has any F availability after 4/1. Before 4/1 most of the F availability is LAX to HND/NRT. (SFO to LAX, then LAX to Tokyo).
Thanks guys. I’ve verified that it is phantom award space and updated the post. Bummer.
Bummer. 🙁
Unfortunately, this is almost entirely phantom award space. Something weird is going on with JAL first class award space. Some partners are showing correct inventory. AA and AS are all messed up from April onwards.
Good luck booking them! AA is actually showing the A class availability rather than the correct Z class. You’ll get the error message when you try to get it ticketed.
AS doesn’t have access to JL F on/after 4/1
What… really? I guess I missed an announcement?
No Mas Coach blogged about it a few days ago.
