Southwest Airlines long kept its flights off of traditional travel websites, opting to only display fares and allow purchases through Southwest.com. We recently began seeing Southwest fare information available via Google flights. Today, travel search engine Kayak.com announces that Southwest fare information is also available via Kayak.com. While most online travel agencies still lack Southwest fares, maybe this move means that we will eventually see online travel agencies offer Southwest Airlines fares for purchase.
Quick Thoughts
This will mainly be exciting for those who use Kayak.com as a general habit. Personally, I’ve grown so accustomed to using Google Flights because of its many useful features that I haven’t used Kayak to search for airfares in a long time.
This might also be useful to those looking for Southwest fares while overseas. I don’t know whether Southwest still does it, but they used to block website access from some foreign IP addresses. If you’re blocked from using Southwest.com, it might be helpful to find Southwest fares on Kayak.com — though as that point you’ll still need a VPN or someone at home to book for you.
