The Deal
- Link your Costco membership in the Uber Eats app & get $10 Uber Cash free + 20% off your first $50+ Costco order through Uber Eats when linking your Costco membership.
Key Terms
- Uber Cash & 20% savings valid for 14 days after you link your membership.
- Limit $70 savings when using the 20% off coupon.
Quick Thoughts
This is an easy win if you’re a Costco member as it should only take a matter of seconds to get the $10 Uber Cash for free. Just remember to make use of that within a fortnight so that it doesn’t expire.
As for the 20% discount on up to $350 spend, that could prove to be a decent deal as well. I’m not sure if – and how much – Costco orders are marked up when ordering through Uber Eats, but the 20% discount on your first order will hopefully mitigate any kind of upcharge. You can save even more by buying Uber gift cards at a 20% discount from Costco online or in-store, then paying for your Costco order with those discounted Uber gift cards by redeeming them when placing your order in the Uber Eats app.
Fortnight? …. I thought it was 2 weeks
not showing up in NYC area either
I wonder if it can be used with the Amex Monthly credits – or if it has to be CC.
I checked the some items that I buy in the warehouse. Half n Half is marked up 13%. Kirkland roasted turkey breast is 8% higher. Skinny Pop Popcorn is 8% higher with Uber. Looks like variable markups.
Neither P2 nor I have the offer in our Uber Eats app. Oh well.
I’m not sure about Uber, but Instacart has a max markup at Costco of about $13.
So if you buy something expensive you can really save money. I think a $2000 necklace was the most expensive thing I saw on Instacart, For practical things, a $700 vacuum saves $140-13-tip.
Now, I’m not sure what to do about the markup when returning things.
We have actually switched to Instacart for consumable and food items we typically had gone to the warehouse – it saves us time & money on impulsive purchases or clothes that don’t fit properly – typically we have just taken them to Goodwill – easier and cheaper than returning – i.e.more impulsive purchases and hassle of finding parking, waiting in lines.
Learned it was actually cheaper even with markup and tip – last year when they had a short lived $30 off $100 deal three different coupons that stacked for $90 of $100 – got my order in process – before they started cancelling orders.
Needed more items for a month long trip and just ordered Insta without coupons and was pleasantly surprised at pricing and time saved (didn’t have the time before our trip to go to Costco). So we have switch and mostly doing Insta over instore visits.
btw, you can also order Instacart gift cards for 20% off from Costco which could save you even more.
i failed to mention that’s what I’ve been doing but they limit you to $200 in IC gift cards every 14 days
Not sure if you ever go in-store, but the 14 day rule is only applied online. If you ever shop in-store, you can stock up there too. There’s a limit of two per transaction, but no overall limit enforced on your membership itself that way.
Nice.
In-store we can use the USB AR for 4.5c (3X RtR earned with Mobile payment). Since we went from 5 people in the house to empty nesters – we downgraded from Executive to normal business membership.
But then we run into the same impulsive and unexpected/non-list purchases (Costco knows this very well – lol).
Costco had a great deal in addition to a coupon ($30 of again IIRC) between BF and Xmas.
Used part of our inKind GC ($59 special last month) for dinner out last night – they have been increasing the number of location that take it – the Mexican restaurant we used it at last night – at the register had a sign ” we charge 3.38% for CC purchases. OUCH. But no surcharge on the inKind or the tip on the Amex Gold.
Can you buy multiple in the same day by doing multiple trips through the checkout? I have never fully understood how to make this efficient.
Yes, you can go around again and get more each time. It’s worth trying to use a different checkout line each time though just in case the store takes issue with it; it’s not hard coded in their system to prevent it in different transactions though.
Thank you. Now please get Costco to take Amex again. Let me know when you’re done.
No one should forget the scathing DoC article about Uber pricing practices.
Link?
There isn’t one unfortunately – it just shows up in the Uber Eats app.
Targeted? Not seeing it
I believe that the offer is location-dependent. I got 15-20% discount depending on location, but no $10 Uber Cash. So, YMMV.
Thanks. No offer at all in Chicago
