Last week, some great new Amex Offers appeared offering 10% back at Lowe’s, Staples, Boxed and Dell. If you didn’t load them straight away, you might have thought you were out of luck as they soon disappeared.
Good news – Doctor of Credit reported yesterday that these offers appear to be showing again for people who missed out the first time.
When they originally disappeared, I’d assumed it was because enrollment in the offers had been maxed out. After all, 10% back on $500-$1,000 is a decent offer, especially seeing as both Lowe’s and Staples have gift card racks in-store if you don’t need merchandise from either of them.
However, it looks like Amex might have pulled the offers early because they’d appeared on both personal cards and business cards. As Nick noted at the time, the wording of the offers included the phrase ‘…using your enrolled Business Card’. We weren’t sure at the time if they’d simply copied and pasted the terms from the previous similar offers that were targeted at business cards, or if personal cards had been targeted this time around by accident.
I’d loaded the Lowe’s, Staples and Boxed offers as soon as they appeared, but didn’t bother with the Dell offer as I knew I wouldn’t use it. The Dell offer now only shows on my business cards, so I suspect Amex realized their mistake and reloaded the offers only on those types of cards, but let me know in the comments below if they’ve reappeared on your personal cards too.
Those 10% offers aren’t the only ones reappearing. Last November, some new Amex Offers appeared for four different Marriott brands – Fairfield Inn, Courtyard, SpringHill Suites and Four Points. My wife was targeted for all four, but I only received the Courtyard and Four Points offers.
When logging in to my Amex accounts today though, the Fairfield Inn and SpringHill Suites offers were showing. Even better, they could be loaded to my SPG card which means I’ll also earn 6x if I use them.
There might be other offers reappearing too, so check your accounts in case you’ve now been targeted.
These offers are nice, however I recently had to wait over four months for Amex to post my SPG/Marriott points. The terms of the current Staples and Lowe’s offer both state:
“Statement credit will appear on your billing statement within 90 days after 6/30/2019”
So you may not receive your credit until 9/30/19, and if you cancel your card before that time, then of course you won’t get it at all. Anyway, be aware you’ll probably have to track this for quite a while to make sure the credit does in fact post.
So I loaded the offer last week to one of my personal Amex cards, even though the language of the offer said “business cards.” Will Amex honor the offer if I use that Amex card at Lowes? I don’t want to ask Amex. Any data points?
My expectation is that they’ll honor purchases on personal cards, although I haven’t used the offers yet. If they didn’t, they’d be getting a huge influx of CFPB complaints!
CFPB has been gutted during the last year.
Yes. I received 50 cents back on my $5 purchase at Lowe’s using personal card.
