When Hyatt Gold Passport changed to World of Hyatt last year, one of the disappointing elements related to the expiry dates of suite upgrades earned with Globalist status and club lounge access earned with Explorist status.
Both of these benefits expired 365 days after earning them, rather than in line with the expiry of your status. World of Hyatt no doubt received much feedback about this and have made positive changes to the policies.
As of June 1, 2018, both the four suite night upgrades and four club lounge access awards will expire 14 months after the end of the year in which they were earned.
Let’s say you earned Explorist status on July 1. Before today’s changes, the club lounge access awards you’d have earned would’ve expired on June 30, 2019 whereas they’ll now expire on February 29, 2020. That’s in line with when your status would expire, making everything much more straightforward and increasing the length of time you’ll have to take advantage of the awards.
I’m on course to earn Explorist and potentially Globalist status for the first time this year, so these changes are greatly appreciated. If you’ve already earned Explorist or Globalist status this year, these changes should already be reflected when logging in to your account.
Hi! I just checked and my Globalist expires on February, 2019 but my awards will expire on February 2020.
I think the extension to February 2020 is a one-off concession for past earned awards. In the future, the expiry date of your status and awards should match. If you earn Globalist status again this year, it’ll expire in February 2020 along with the new awards you’d earn.
My upgrade rewards recently got expired. Do you think it is possible to contact them to get it reinstated?
It’s certainly worth a try. I’d message them and mention today’s changes and ask if they’d be willing to extend the expiry dates as a gesture of goodwill. Even if it’s only until February 2019 rather than February 2020, that’d still be better than nothing.
Interesting… just checked the app and it shows February 2020 expiration date now for my remaining awards (haven’t requalified yet so would’ve expected February 2019).
Nice – that’s even more positive than expected then.
Hi Stephen, the old program was Hyatt *Gold* Passport, not Hyatt Global Passport.
My bad, thanks – had Globalist on the mind!
