Update 12/2/25: As a reminder, PayPal is included as a 5% category on Chase Freedom/Freedom Flex cards for all of December. That’s part of the same overall $1,500 cap on 5% spending with the other categories, rather than its own $1,500 allowance.

Contrary to the posting, the Discover It does not participate in a 5% offer. It earns a consistent 1.5% at all times on all categories.
You must be thinking of the Discover It Miles card which earns 1.5% everywhere. That’s different from the Discover It
The Discover It Miles card earns 1.5% on all purchases; the Discover It card earns 1% on all purchases and 5% on up to $1,500 spend each quarter in a list of rotating categories.
If I have a Chase Offer for a retailer will I still get that offer if I use paypal?
I think I’ve seen reports that you can, although I don’t know if it’s guaranteed every time. Provided the retailer name shows up in the transaction description, that’s usually all that’s needed for Chase Offers.
Should read the terms to see if they explicitly say payments through a digital wallet may not qualify.
For those that use Chase Travel 9% back in points is pretty darn good!
Great idea! Thanx for pointing that out
Ah, I was trying to figure out why the 5% showed up twice in my UR statement.
One of the more meek Chase Freedom Q4 offerings. In the past Q4 has often been PayPal for the whole quarter, Walmart, or warehouse stores (Costco/Sam’s Club).
Thereby skipping cash back for Black Friday sales… disappointing “bonus” categories this year.
What is an example of Department Store for Chase Freedom Cards

Antonio, Thank you for the link!
We purchased two hand towels for the guest bathroom at Target, one point per dollar. Chase states that Target is coded as a grocery store.
For me, in-person Walmart codes as grocery, but Walmart.com does not. Did you buy in-person or online?
In person. Also, this Target was a location that also sells groceries. ..
Macy’s, Bloomingdales, Saks Fifth Avenue, Neiman Marcus
An important one is Kohls. Can buy a variety of gift cards at Kohls.
