Quick Thoughts
In case you’re not familiar with Rove Miles, it’s a new transferable points currency that offers miles on shopping, hotel bookings and more. Nick wrote a comprehensive post about it, so be sure to check that out: A look at the Rove Miles platform: Earn transferable miles for bookings & shopping, use miles for outsized value.
As a reminder, Rove Miles can be transferred on a (mostly) 1:1 basis to the following partners:
- Accor Live Limitless (Transfers 1,500 to 1,000)
-

- Air France / KLM Flying Blue
- Air India Maharaja Club
-
Cathay Pacific Asia Miles
-
Etihad Guest
-
Finnair Plus
- Hainan Airlines Fortune Wings Club
-
Qatar Airways Privilege Club
-
Thai Airways Royal Orchid Plus
-
Turkish Airlines Miles & Smiles
-
Vietnam Airlines Lotusmiles
Referrals
Rove normally offers 500 bonus miles when joining the site for the first time, so it’s nice to have that bonus doubled for the next couple of weeks. The bonus miles are awarded instantly, with no spend requirement.
It works a little differently for the referrer. Whereas the person being referred earns their miles straightaway, you’ll only earn the 1,000 mile referral bonus after they’ve earned at least 250 miles. An awesome added benefit is that you’ll then earn 10% of their earnings for the next six months. That’s capped at 50,000 bonus miles per referral, so if you refer more than one person and they each earn a decent number of miles through Rove, you could end up with a nice stash of miles yourself.
Hotels
The hotel booking promo could be pretty rewarding seeing as you can earn 2,500 bonus miles on a $250-$499.99 booking with promo code STAYCATION or 5,000 bonus miles on a $500+ booking with promo code BACKTOSCHOOL. Be aware that you won’t earn regular hotel points, receive elite status benefits, etc., on stays booked using the Rove Miles travel portal, so this is best used for stays where those factors are of less importance to you.
As always, consider your other booking options too. For example, if you have a Venture X card, you might prefer to book that kind of stay through the Capital One Travel portal in order to redeem your card’s $300 travel credit. Somewhat similarly, one of the benefits on the Citi Strata Premier card is $100 off a $500+ hotel stay booked through the Citi Travel portal. Saving $100 on a $500 hotel booking will, for many people, be preferable to earning 5,000 bonus miles, even if those are transferable miles.
Target gift cards
The third offer is 5x on Target gift cards. This is a boosted rate when buying them after clicking through to Giftcards.com as those purchases ordinarily earn 3.2x. It’s a pretty good return seeing as it’s not always easy to earn 5x transferable miles on Target gift cards. Target does usually offer a 10% discount on their own gift cards a couple of times per year, but the next sale likely won’t be for another 2-2.5 months; this 5x rate is therefore a good opportunity if you need them in the meantime.
