(EXPIRED) Save money in Europe with new Amex Offers [enrollment required](Targeted?)

I’m writing this post from somewhere in the Mediterranean on the MSC Orchestra cruise ship, so I’m not sure whether it’s because I logged in to my Amex account from Europe or whether everyone will see these offers, but I see some intriguing spending offers for those planning to visit Italy, France, the UK, or Spain this summer. If others in the comments do not report seeing these, it might be worth logging in from Europe. Note that enrollment is required and there are specific merchants (including hotels, restaurants, and stores) — click the links for participating merchants to see PDFs will full location lists.

Quick Thoughts

These offers seem fairly specific when you dig into the details (the initial headline offers make it sound like you just need to spend in the associated country, but as it turns out they have drilled down to not only stores but specific locations / addresses).

The UK offer is valid online for the Heathrow Express, so that may come in handy even if you’re planning a trip that will take place after the offer expires so long as you make your purchase before it ends. Also in the list of UK merchants is Charles Tyrwhitt, which is a dress shirt shop from which I’ve purchased online many times. The offer says it is valid in-store only at Charles Tyrwhitt, but the PDF includes a link to the Charles Tyrwhitt website, and despite there being some Charles Tyrwhitt stores in the United States, the orders I’ve received have always shipped from the UK, which makes me wonder if ordering online may post as a qualifying UK charge despite the terms (but YMMV since the terms clearly say in-store only).

Overall, these offers are probably of somewhat limited utility, but considering the fact that you may be able to buy some sort of luxury item in Europe and get the VAT back when you leave Europe and also stack with one of these offers, they could be of interest in the right circumstances. I’m not familiar with all of these merchants, but I imagine they could be useful for some traveling to Europe this year.
