(EXPIRED) Awesome Singapore Airlines Spontaneous Escapes: 51% off many routes

Singapore Airlines is out with its latest set of Spontaneous Escapes, and this month it is good for 51% off select flights, including business class between San Francisco and Hong Kong or Singapore for 43,610 / 46,550 miles each way or premium economy between Los Angeles and Singapore for ~33K miles each way or Newark and Singapore for just ~36K or Houston and Manchester for ~23K miles each way. Economy class travelers can fly between the US and Europe for just over 11K miles each way! If you have the time to put together a longer trip, you can travel between Singapore and many cities for great prices in business class (economy and premium economy are also on sale). Keep in mind this is only valid for bookings through 1/31 and travel during February 2020. Interestingly, there appear to be more routes on sale than what I’m seeing on the sale landing page, so it’s worth taking a look at this post from Mainly Miles for the full list.

Quick Thoughts

These are some really awesome deals for long-haul (and also regional) Singapore Airlines business class. Premium economy deals are also excellent. There are far too many routes available to list them all here, but some highlights that are likely to appeal to some readers include:

Business Class

• • San Francisco to/from Hong Hong on SQ1 / SQ2: 43,610 miles each way
  • San Francisco to/from Singapore on SQ1 / SQ2: 46,550 miles each way
  • Singapore to/from Johannesburg on SQ482 / SQ481: 24,010 miles each way
  • Singapore to/from Brisbane on SQ255 / SQ265 / SQ236 / SQ256 / SQ266: 30,380 miles each way

Premium Economy

• • Newark to/from Singapore on SQ21 / SQ22: 35,770 miles each way
  • Houston to/from Manchester on SQ51 / SQ52: 23,030 miles each way
  • Los Angeles to/from Singapore on SQ35 / SQ36 / SQ37 / SQ38: 33,320 miles each way

Economy Class

Note that to see the discount, you have to click the dot to select the flight. Then the discount will appear in the top right corner booking summary (see the screen shot of the Newark flight below for an example). Also keep in mind that only select flight numbers are included.

Sometimes, Singapore only offers the sale routes in a single direction. However, this time many of the routes are on sale in both directions (note that some of the European routes are not). This makes it easier to take advantage of these deals round trip.

I flew the route between Singapore and Hong Kong / San Francisco in first class a few years ago. When I peeked back at business class, I felt like perhaps I had overpaid as first class didn’t appear to be significantly better on that plane at the time. I’d definitely take Singapore business class for 46K miles on this route.

Further, if you’re looking to combine with a trip to Australia or South Africa, this sale can make for a decent way to piece that together. I recently flew business class from Brisbane to Singapore and felt like I got a steal with a Spontaneous Escape at 43K miles (reduced from 62K). With this sale, that route will be 30,380 — though the catch is that it’s only on sale from Singapore to Brisbane this time around.

However, business class flights between Singapore and Johanessburg (24K each way!), Dubai (24K each way), Barcelona (45K), Dusseldorf (45K), Rome (45K), and many cities in Asia are on sale in both directions.

As noted at the top, Mainly Miles appears to have a more complete list of routes on sale. For example, I do not see Newark on the list at the Singapore Airlines website, but Mainly Miles lists premium economy on sale for 35,770 miles between Newark and Singapore (down from from 73,000 miles!). Sure enough, that is correct.

That’s a great deal for what looks like a pretty nice premium economy on what I believe is still currently the world’s longest flight.

Bottom line

If you can travel next month, there are some terrific deals in this month’s Singapore Airlines Spontaneous Escapes. Keep in mind that Singapore Airlines is an Amex transfer partner, Chase transfer partner, Citi transfer partner, Marriott transfer partner, and Capital One transfer partner (albeit at the poor 2:1 ratio), making it really easy to put together the miles for these awards.
