We’re approaching the end of the year and some people will be trying to earn the 135,000 qualifying points necessary for a Southwest Companion Pass. If you’re a Southwest cardholder, one way you can get there faster is via a promotion awarding 2x Companion Pass qualifying points at wholesale clubs and department stores. Whether the bonus points will post to the 2025 or 2026 qualifying year is another matter though.

- To be eligible for this bonus Companion Pass qualifying points offer, you must register between October 1 and December 31, 2025 (“Promotion Period”).

Quick Thoughts
It looks like this promotion has been around since the beginning of October, but I only noticed it the other day when logging in to my Southwest account.
It’s a potentially decent promotion, especially if you need up to 20,000 more Companion Pass qualifying points. That’s because you can earn up to 10,000 bonus qualifying points (i.e. on up to $10,000 spend) which is on top of the up to 10,000 qualifying points you’d earn as standard.
Note that the double points you’d be earning are Companion Pass qualifying points, not redeemable Rapid Rewards points.
What’s a little more uncertain though is whether the bonus points you’ll earn will go towards the current Companion Pass qualification year. The terms state that you should allow up to 6 to 8 weeks after the end of the Promotion Period for the bonus Companion Pass qualifying points to post to your Southwest Rapid Rewards account. The end of the promotion period is December 31, 2025; that means the bonus Companion Pass qualifying points might not be credited until the end of February 2026. That being the case, I don’t know if Southwest backdates those to the 2025 qualification year, or if they get applied to next year’s earnings. If anyone has experience with how this has worked with similar promos during Q4 of previous years, please let us know in the comments.
