Stater Bros is launching a new promotion tomorrow (October 30) that offers the opportunity to rack up grocery store spend and make a profit at the same time. That’s because they have a coupon giving a $10 instant discount when spending $100 or more on Visa or Mastercard gift cards and $10 or more of groceries in the same transaction.
The Deal
- Buy $100+ Visa or Mastercard gift cards and $10+ groceries at the same time and get a $10 instant discount when using the above coupon.
Key Terms
- Offer valid October 30, 2019 to November 5, 2019.
- Limit one coupon per transaction per day.
Quick Thoughts
It looks like Stater Bros stores are only in California, so this isn’t available to much of the country unlike Kroger and Safeway/Just For U deals. Still, if you have a Stater Bros store near you, this is an excellent deal.
For starters, it’s a profitable deal seeing as the $10 instant discount will more than offset the activation fee. There aren’t any terms stating that it has to be a $100 fixed value card, so this will presumably work on variable load gift cards provided your store carries them. Buying a $500 card will therefore be the best play here as it’ll greatly increase the rewards you’ll earn.
Even better is the fact that you can take advantage of this deal more than once. It does state that there’s a limit of one coupon per transaction per day, but I’m not sure how easily they’ll be able to restrict that seeing as this coupon isn’t tied to a loyalty card. You should therefore be able to check out with different cashiers in order to get around the restriction (if they even care in the first place) or visit different stores. Alternatively, you could use self checkout lanes if they have them, although that might require the assistance of an employee who might be aware of the limit of one coupon use per day.
Be sure to pay with a card that earns more at grocery stores to make this deal even more rewarding.
Hi Stephen,
The Stater Brothers grocery stores near me do not carry the variable gift cards. I’m curious to see what others might say about this.
Just got back from 1/4 Stater Bros in my area. Was hoping to hit this hard with the $500 denomination, but only saw the $20-$200 variables (both VGC and MGC) available for a $6.95 fee. Still a money maker (assuming you use every bit of the $10 promo for items you normally buy at the price you normally pay), but the points-earning proposition is significantly less lucrative/convenient. I passed for now with the intention of checking at least one more location, but may settle for a few of the $200’s if I don’t find the $500’s.
