Quick Thoughts
Neither my wife nor I were targeted for this promotion, but if you are it can be a great way to save a hefty chunk on paid stays between now and the end of the promotional period. The terms state you can get a statement credit up to $300, meaning that this should work on up to $1,000 in purchases. While the terms state that “cash equivalents” do not count, I imagine that buying a gift card at the front desk ought to trigger the offer if you’re short of maximizing this one. While that is certainly a great deal, keep in mind that it will be possible to buy Marriott Gift Cards for 20% off this week with Daily Getaways – those who are not targeted for the 30% offer can at least take some solace in that.
Since this is a good year to go for status (See Greg’s recent post: Marriott Platinum Premier 75. Should I go for it? for more on why), this 30% back offer would be a nice way to help defray the cost.

A related question – with the Amex offers for hotels there is usually language saying gift cards don’t qualify, only room and tax charges do. Has it been the experience of this community that gift cards bought at the front desk will trigger the offer?
With Marriott, yes.
Any idea on other hotels? I currently have the Kimpton and Hyatt offers on my cards.
Hyatt: yes. Kimpton: I don’t know unfortunately.
Thanks, Nick! If I can get to a Kimpton before my offer expires, I’ll try it and let you know.
