Quick Thoughts
12% cashback is an excellent rate which is the highest it’s been on any shopping portal in the last 9 months….but it only applies to Even Hotels, making it not terribly useful. For all other brands you’ll earn 9% cashback which is still a very good rate. There’s also an offer on TCB to save “up to” 20% on 3+ night stays in addition to the caschback, but the few properties that I checked didn’t seem to be much different than the member rate.
It’s not clear how long this rate will last. TopCashback is often good about giving a 24 hour countdown when rates are temporarily increased like this, so the fact that it’s not showing a countdown right now hopefully means the rate will stick around beyond today. I’m not counting on it though, so I’ll be making a Holiday Inn Express reservation tonight to take advantage of the 9% rate.
This should stack with IHG’s targeted September promo, which offers bonus points for staying 5, 10 or 15 nights during the month of September.
Does. this only work for prepaid? What if my travel is not until November and the stay isn’t completed until then. Will it track? Guessing no?
It works for both prepaid and flexible rate bookings. If your travel is in November, it’ll still track at the correct rate, you just won’t receive the cashback until after your stay.
As I mention repeatedly, TCB is not a good choice for IHG. I would take 1% Rakuten over 30% TCB. You have been warned.
So would Kimpton hotels not be included in this?
I’d imagine that Kimpton, Hualuxe and any other unlisted IHG brands would earn cashback, but I’m not sure if it’d be at the 9% or 11% rate. I could be wrong though – I don’t think I’ve ever booked a paid Kimpton stay, so I don’t know if it tracks normally.
