Quick Thoughts

If you’ve been thinking about joining Costco or looking to add a bit more space to your annual 2% rebate (like I often am), this could be a good opportunity to get off the fence and try it for a year.

If you are signing up for a second membership, make sure to use a different e-mail address and phone number than those associated with your current membership. Costco won’t let you use the same info on two memberships. You can have both a business and a personal account at the same address, however.

I had seven of these memberships this year, and Costco eventually caught me and closed all but one of them. I was snail-mailed a stark letter asking which one I wanted to keep, and that future attempts to open multiple accounts will result in a ban. Thankfully, I had maxed all of them out, so I got one big beautiful check from six accounts via UPS expedited, and the final check from the surviving account as normal. This happened to a large swath of people in a number of private MS groups. I will probably make a business account in 2026, and open personal/business for my wife, but we’re limited to a max of 4 accounts to stay legit. Buyer beware; Costco is actively looking for this.

I never got the incentives (since they could obviously tell I was an existing customer), and didn’t much care, as the return on the 2% rebate far outweighed that. I used cloned email addresses and phone numbers, but they obviously connected the dots for me based on name and mailing address. Fun while it lasted…go big or go home.

They sent me a $60 when I signed up last month. Previous membership expired in october 2025, and I didn’t renew.
