Update 7/14/21: This deal has been dead for a couple of weeks, but it is finally tracking for those who took advantage. I received a “transaction tracked” email overnight and now I see $110.09 pending in my TopCashBack account (I did the $149.99 subscription). This is great news! Note that I did file a missing cash back claim a few days ago. If your transaction isn’t pending and you haven’t filed a claim, it is worth filing one as it looks like this should pay out as expected.
Update 6/29/21: This deal is dead. TopCashBack is now showing $11 cash back. Hopefully TopCashBack honors this as they listed the 73.4% rate all night and into this afternoon.
TopCashBack is offering 73.4% cash back on HBO Max. Doctor of Credit reports a reader who confirmed that the rate is good on an annual subscription, though I don’t see any terminology that would put that into question (still, if you want to be sure, you can try reaching out and hope that the rate lasts long enough to confirm it). This would make for an incredible stack with the Amex Offer that’s good for $25 back on $99.99 or more at HBO Max.
The Deal
- TopCashBack is offering 73.4% cash back on HBO Max. Stacked with the Amex Offer for $25 back on $99.99 or more, this makes an annual subscription cost less than $2 net.
- Direct link to TopCashBack
Key Terms
- Using a promotional/coupon code not posted and approved by TopCashback may invalidate cash back
- Returning, exchanging or cancelling part of your order will invalidate cash back
- Purchases made on other sites than HBO Max’s US site do not qualify
Quick Thoughts
I mean, wowie zowie: a 1-year HBO Max subscription with ads is ordinarily $99.99. Between $73.40 back from Top Cash Back and $25 back from the Amex Offer, you’d be getting back $98.40 on a $99.99 subscription. If you’re only watch one movie this year on HBO Max, that pays for itself.
Note that the details of the offer do say first purchase. In my household, that wasn’t a problem since we had a household member who had never subscribed. YMMV.
Personally, I went for the ad-free subscription at $149.99. That subscription includes 4K viewing in situations when available and downloads to watch offline. Since I have T-Mobile’s Magenta Max plan, I should be able to stream in 4K when data speed allows and since I hope I’ll be back up in the air over the next year, downloadable content is very appealing. With $110.09 back via TopCashBack (assuming this tracks properly) and $25 back from the Amex Offer, my net cost out of pocket for a year of add-free with download capability will be less than $15. HBO Max ordinarily charges $14.99 per month for that ad-free plan if paid monthly, so this is a smoking deal.
I had been holding off hoping that Amex releases the rumored streaming credits on the personal Platinum card, but I couldn’t miss out on this as it was the perfect opportunity to get HBO Max for next-to-nothing. Keep in mind that I always advise keeping gratuitous screen shots in case something doesn’t track properly.
H/T: Doctor of Credit
I just got a notice that while this offer was a mistake, TopCashBack is honoring it. I was able to do a payout today.
Same.
Anyone see their cash come in on this one? Mind still showing $110.10 as pending.
Still pending on mine, but that’s par for the course. Cash back from portals is typically pending for anywhere from 45-90 days before it becomes payable. A glance at my TopCashBack account shows that I had purchases from Cubavera and Illy during the week before the HBO deal (and Saks OFF 5th a couple days after) that are all still pending also. My purchases this spring through the Wyndham portal took 46-48 days before I received the points. I have a purchase from June 28th that’s still pending in my Rakuten account. Shopping portals take time to pay out.
Thanks Nick, this was my first time trying the portal and have no experience it previously. This week, I used it again for an Old Navy/Gap purchase that is also pending. However, I also tried to use TCB on a Lego purchase for my kiddo, and that took almost two weeks to ship so my card wasn’t charged right away, and there was nothing tracked from the portal on that one, unsurprisingly.
It’s now been 100 days…mine’s still pending.
Hi Drew,
The HBO Max issue has been resolved so I would encourage you to check your account/claims and respond accordingly. We were finally able to sort this for everyone and take pride in being a cashback portal that demonstrates fair play throughout every scenario and situation to do what is right for our members. If you have any other questions or concerns now, or in the future, please don’t hesitate to reach out directly to promotions@topcashback.com.
Best Wishes,
Dominique
Thank you Dominique, I appreciate the response and the resolution.
Nick, much appreciated update, and my experience was exactly the same as yours, I had to open ticket with Top Cashback, and then mysteriously 2 days later it shows up as pending!
Mine shows up as pending now, thanks for the update
Same. Finally, something is happening now. If we all get 73% back, mannnn we all have got an amazing deal. Especially, with an Amex $25 back.
Dead again
It was never Undead. It only lasted the one night. This republish is for the update at the top that it’s tracking.
I am showing $110.09 pending for my ad-free HBO Max order.
If you look at the DOC link that Nick posted, TCB is commenting in that thread. They are aware of the issue and are working to resolve it. No idea how long it will take, but it at least seems they have acknowledged and are attempting to resolve.
Thanks for highlighting this – I hadn’t seen that. That’s great news. Hopefully they’re able to work it out. I’ve never had TopCashBack not come through eventually. I imagine this won’t get resolved quickly, but at least we know it hasn’t been ignored.
I still haven’t been credited. I kept all my screen shots but I’m not that hopeful. Which isn’t great. I can’t imagine I’ll use HBO enough to justify it at the price without the cash back. Any tips on getting them to pay?
FYI, I filed a missing cash back claim this morning. I chose HBO Max from the list of retailers and then it populated a drop-down with my date and time of click (oddly, this click isn’t showing up in my click history, but it *did* show up when I went to file the missing claim). Then I entered my purchase amount ($149.99) and on the next page it automatically calculated my expected cash back of $110.09. Note that I didn’t enter the expected cash back rate, TCB automatically calculated it, presumably based on its own knowledge of its rate history based on the time and date of my click. That is at least good-ish news — they clearly know they offered 73.4% back at that time and that it means $110 on $150.
Same scenario for me
Same here.
Same for me.
Oh Boy. Not tracking. This one’s going to be a fight.
Anyone show it as pending, yet?
It doesn’t seem to have tracked for me. I submitted a missing cashback request.
same here. No pending. Does show click history though
Same. In click history, but nothing pending.
Same here, also submitted a missing cashback request.
Same. Just submitted a cash back. Please update whoever gets caah back first.
Is the deal dead? All I see now is $11 back (versus the 73.4% back). Did I snooze too long on the deal?
The deal is dead. It now says Standard Direct-to-Pay $11.00
Missed it by 30 minutes, I was waiting for my wife to text me a photo of my amex card….lmao
I just got the deal using the TopCashBack Chrome extension. I was able to activate it at 73.4%.
Anyone know what “Standard Direct-to-Pay” is? I don’t see it defined on either the TCB or HBO website.
When I logged into TopCashBack using the Edge browser, the offer said it was for new subscribers. But when I logged in using Chrome, the offer said Standard Direct-to-Pay. So perhaps using Chrome allows existing HBO Max subscribers to take advantage of the deal?
After signing up for HBO Max using Chrome, I went back to Edge, and now the offer also reads Standard Direct-to-Pay.
