[Update: tracking] Wow: 73.4% back on HBO Max. Stack w/ Amex Offer for nearly-free or great deal on ad-free

Update 7/14/21: This deal has been dead for a couple of weeks, but it is finally tracking for those who took advantage. I received a “transaction tracked” email overnight and now I see $110.09 pending in my TopCashBack account (I did the $149.99 subscription). This is great news! Note that I did file a missing cash back claim a few days ago. If your transaction isn’t pending and you haven’t filed a claim, it is worth filing one as it looks like this should pay out as expected.

Update 6/29/21: This deal is dead. TopCashBack is now showing $11 cash back. Hopefully TopCashBack honors this as they listed the 73.4% rate all night and into this afternoon.

TopCashBack is offering 73.4% cash back on HBO Max. Doctor of Credit reports a reader who confirmed that the rate is good on an annual subscription, though I don’t see any terminology that would put that into question (still, if you want to be sure, you can try reaching out and hope that the rate lasts long enough to confirm it). This would make for an incredible stack with the Amex Offer that’s good for $25 back on $99.99 or more at HBO Max.

The Deal

  • TopCashBack is offering 73.4% cash back on HBO Max. Stacked with the Amex Offer for $25 back on $99.99 or more, this makes an annual subscription cost less than $2 net.

  • Returning, exchanging or cancelling part of your order will invalidate cash back

Quick Thoughts

I mean, wowie zowie: a 1-year HBO Max subscription with ads is ordinarily $99.99. Between $73.40 back from Top Cash Back and $25 back from the Amex Offer, you’d be getting back $98.40 on a $99.99 subscription. If you’re only watch one movie this year on HBO Max, that pays for itself.

Note that the details of the offer do say first purchase. In my household, that wasn’t a problem since we had a household member who had never subscribed. YMMV.

Personally, I went for the ad-free subscription at $149.99. That subscription includes 4K viewing in situations when available and downloads to watch offline. Since I have T-Mobile’s Magenta Max plan, I should be able to stream in 4K when data speed allows and since I hope I’ll be back up in the air over the next year, downloadable content is very appealing. With $110.09 back via TopCashBack (assuming this tracks properly) and $25 back from the Amex Offer, my net cost out of pocket for a year of add-free with download capability will be less than $15. HBO Max ordinarily charges $14.99 per month for that ad-free plan if paid monthly, so this is a smoking deal.

I had been holding off hoping that Amex releases the rumored streaming credits on the personal Platinum card, but I couldn’t miss out on this as it was the perfect opportunity to get HBO Max for next-to-nothing. Keep in mind that I always advise keeping gratuitous screen shots in case something doesn’t track properly.
