Earlier this year the Wyndham Rewards shopping portal ran a surprisingly generous promotion at a number of retailers, the highlight of which was 124x at Things Remembered.
That seemed to be too good to be true as it was effectively a way of buying Wyndham points for 0.81cpp even when disregarding the potential value of the items that you’d be buying. I therefore figured there were some kind of unpublished terms for earning 124x (e.g. only valid on certain products), but Greg decided to take the plunge and placed an order.
I therefore wasn’t too surprised when his purchase didn’t track at 124x, but at 31x instead – 25% of the rate he expected. It all worked out OK in the end though – he placed a claim and was subsequently awarded the 124x rate.
I have more faith with this latest promotion as there aren’t any obviously ludicrous rates on their portal, although there are some very generous returns on offer. The first one that caught my eye was 28x at Groupon. Shopping portals normally offer different rates for Groupon, so I suspect the 28x rate is for Local Deals.
Other highlights include:

- Lululemon – 18x
- Macy’s – 16x
- Staples – 11x
- JCPenney – 18x
- Zappos – 16x
- Raise – 4x
- Marks & Spencer – 21x (this is not just any rate, this is a Marks & Spencer rate (fellow Brits will get this reference 😉 )
The email from Wyndham about this promotion states that their portal promotion will run through December 30, 2021. There’s no guarantee though that these rates will be maintained, so if you need to shop at any of these stores, it could be better to do that sooner rather than later in case rates drop on some or all of these retailers and different retailers have their rates increased in the coming days/weeks.

Stephen, does this promotion mean 3x the base rate (e.g. for Zappos it would be 3×16 = 48x)? I am a bit confused by the terms. Many thanks!
Yeah, its setup is strange. Whatever the rate is listed at on the portal is the rate you should earn. So if it says 16x, that’s what you’ll earn rather than 48x, even though 16x isn’t 3x of anything.
Thanks, Stephen. Particularly good at Zappos. At Staples, if I pay with rewards, does that effectively kill the Wyndham 11x since it zeros out the balance due?
I’m not sure if that’s how it works when redeeming rewards at Staples. Worth clicking through anyway just in case it does pay out on the original value.
When using rewards via Rakuten and United/Alaska portals it pays out on the full amount as if you hadn’t used rewards, so I’m fairly sure it will here as well. Also, the Staples offer shows an 11/30 end date (despite the promo landing still saying 12/30). So may want to make purchases sooner than later.
