The Deal

  • A new Amex Offer is out to get $100 back when you spend $400 or more on Delta-operated flights at Amex Travel [targeted, enrollment required]

Key Terms

  • Only valid on Delta-operated flights booked via AmexTravel.com
  • Includes Delta-operated flights booked as part of the International Airline Program or flight + hotel packages booked via AmexTravel.com
  • Excludes bookings made directly with Delta or other third party apps or services
  • Excludes Delta-operated flights booked via the Amex app or by phone

Quick Thoughts

This is obviously a nice deal if you’ll be booking any Delta flights during the promotional period. Unfortunately, since this one is only available via Amex Travel rather than via Delta itself, it won’t work on gift cards and as such you can’t lock in the discount long-term. Still, if you’ll be booking a Delta flight anyway during the promotional period. this will be a nice savings.

Also note that I bolded the last term. I’ve never tried to book a flight via the Amex app, but it is worth noting that you should go to the AmexTravel.com website to make your qualifying bookings. That seemed a little weird to me because the app seemed to open Amex Travel in my web browser when I clicked “Book Travel” within the app – I don’t think it is possible to book directly within the Amex app, but worth knowing anyway that they do have an exclusion there.

If you have this offer on the Business Platinum card, are you able to pay with points to get the 35% points rebate?

Sam

Me & P2 both targeted on our personal Plat cards. None of our 3 Delta cards. Thanks for the heads up.

Is there any indication if this is only personal or business or certain cards? I would use it if I could get it. I need a roundtrip across the pond lake MKE-DTW in a couple months plus at least 1 more flight for which Delta is looking like the best option. But a quick check shows 0/20 across all our P1 & P2 & AU cards … but I did not take the time to reduce the number shown to <100 to make sure I am seeing everything.

To lock in the “long term discount” – can you book a flight via AmEx Travel and then cancel it with Delta to request a voucher/credit (albeit with an expiration date)?

Joel

Wouldn’t it go back through the OTA?

Drew

Cancelled ticket credit goes back/sits with Amex Travel but DL eCredits (non-refundable credits) don’t expire until 12/31/2023 for travel in 2024, so plenty of time to utilize the credit for a future trip.
“Delta customers with upcoming 2022 travel or who purchase a ticket in 2022 also have the flexibility to rebook their ticket through December 31, 2023 and travel throughout 2024 if their plans change.”
