There are some strong new Amex Offers this morning and over the past couple of days — including a couple for 10,000 points after spending $500. Some of these may be targeted, and the Membership Rewards offers would only appear under cards that earn Membership Rewards (though there may also be cash back versions of some of them). Also, keep an eye on your account — I did not have the Dell offer when I posted it last week, but it appeared under two of my accounts earlier this week.
Steamboat Ski Resort: Spend $500, get 10,000 points
Unlike yesterday’s offer for Aspen Snowmass, this offer looks like it can be used for room charges as well as lift tickets, rentals, lessons, etc. It’s about a 3-hour drive between Aspen Snowmass and Steamboat for those contemplating a trip to both.
The James New York NoMad: Spend $500, get 10,000 points
This offer showed up on our Business Platinum cards (both mine and my wife’s). I assume it is likely targeted — we’ve been in New York City several times this year and I’ve used my card to hold some other tentative reservations (I’d usually change the payment card at check-in). Note that The James appears to have two locations and this offer clearly says the NoMad location.
Wynn & Encore Las Vegas: Spend $500, get $100
If you’re looking to wynn big in Las Vegas, this offer looks like a wynner. All jokes aside, this offer could be very attractive. Wynn is available via Amex Fine Hotels & Resorts if you have an Amex Platinum card. While the offer terms state that your reservation has to be made at wynnlasvegas.com, my past experience with similar offers has been that Fine Hotels & Resorts bookings usually trigger the offer. Unlike when you book through Expedia or Priceline, FHR bookings are charged directly by the hotel, which will probably trigger the offer. The FHR benefits for the Wynn are a room upgrade based on availability (see this Flyertalk thread for info as to which category to book if you want to be upgraded to a specific kind of suite), free breakfast for 2 daily, guaranteed 4pm late checkout, and a $100 spa credit. I’ve seen Wynn rates in the $150/nt range at times through FHR (usually during this time of year), so you could potentially do a 2-night stay with breakfast two mornings, a $100 spa credit, and $100 towards dinner or something else — a decent value for Wynn. Also note that the terms state a number of food & beverage establishments are included, so you could also use this offer on dinner with a group. The night clubs and show tickets appear to be excluded. See the terms for more details.
SPG: Spend $300, get $60 Back
This offer was found on all of our Amex cards. Note that it is only valid at SPG properties in the US and US territories and it excludes all Marriott properties. Still, a 20% discount stacked on top of whatever special rate you are able to book is a welcome savings on an SPG stay — this is especially nice if you were targeted for the double elite credit this quarter and you have planned SPG stays.
Bottom line
Amex Offers keep a number of their cards in my pocket year after year. It’s nice to see strong offers continue to pick up steam as we head into the holiday shopping season. Did you receive any other interesting offers lately? Let us know in the comments.
[…] you took advantage of the recent Amex Offer for Steamboat Ski Resort, there’s a new SPG promotion to help you save money on accommodation […]
I got the James NoMad offer as well, though mine was for $100 off $500. Granted, their rooms are going for about $400/night at the moment, and I know New York is expensive, but I”m not sure this hotel warrants that price tag for either $100 or 10k points. I spend a lot on NYC hotels with this card, so I imagine that’s why I’m targeted for it as well.
Really wish a lot of these hotel offers were for outside of the US as well – do you know why they’re not? Is it because the currency exchange would make it too complicated?
Is #AmexJDVHotel correct twitter?
I like the 10% off cable/tv bill offer. Max of $30 but easy enough to temporarily xfer pmt type over to AMEX!
Does tax and resort fees count toward spend for hotel room rate and room charges?
Yes, for an Amex Offer it does.
Sorry about some of the gibberish in the previous post. Apple’s auto incorrect strikes again.
If I have a second card that’s an authorized user, does this offer apply to the second card as well. For example if the primary signed up for the spg offer, would you spray the secondary cardholder also get the bonus points?
I’m not asking to double up on the offer. I’m just asking if any of the cards on our account can take advantage of it.
No, I’ve been told that it’s card specific, but you should try and create a separate login profile for the Authorized user and attempt to add the offer this way.
Mr. Lee is correct. Amex offers are card specific. that said, have you checked the online login for the AU card? I think I found this offer on every AMEX card we have. Actually, in hindsight, maybe that’s not true. I’ll have to double check to see if it was on my Hilton card, but I imagine it wasn’t. I’d be surprised if you AU card doesn’t have this offer on it.
But again, to trigger the AmEx offer, you’ll have to use the card to which you added the offer. AU spend counts towards signup bonuses and big spend bonuses, but it won’t trigger an offer that you added to the primary account.
And no problem on any errors from your Apple autocorrect. When I’m replying to comments, I’m usually using voice to text and sometimes I miss some of the mistakes the software makes also. If I ever respond with gibberish, that’s why 🙂
“Steamboat Ski Resort: Spend $100, get 10,000 points”
this should say $500
It does now — thanks :-).
