Frequent Miler's latest team challenge, Million Mile Madness, is happening now! Follow us as Greg, Nick, and Stephen compete to earn 1 Million SAS miles by flying 15 airlines before November 23rd. Who will complete the challenge with the most Speed, Affordability, and Style?
Valid today only, 10/3/2014:
The United MileagePlus Shopping Portal is offering 10X bonus miles for purchases made at several merchants today: Nordstrom, Ann Taylor, Sur La Table, and Yoox.com.
Gift card notes:
- According to results found in the Frequent Miler Laboratory, purchasing Nordstrom gift cards does not result in points earned.
- Early results from an experiment I started last week show that both e-gift cards and physical gift cards bought from Sur La Table do earn points. Note, though, that while I received emails indicating success I do not yet see the points as pending through the portal I used (Delta SkyMiles Shopping). So, I’m going to wait a bit before declaring victory on that one.
- We don’t yet have data on Yoox or Ann Taylor. If anyone tries buying a gift card, please report the results in the comments of the Frequent Miler Laboratory.
You do not have to use a United branded credit card to get miles from this portal. You can pay with any credit card including the Chase Freedom card or the Discover It card. The Freedom card offers 5X this quarter at department stores (so Nordstrom should qualify), and the Discover It card offers 5X for online shopping, so all of these retailers should qualify.

I love the info you publish and thought Id share an oddity I found recently with the Ultimate Rewards portal using different Chase credit cards, specifically bonus points for purchases from Nordstrom.
Accessing the U.R. portal using our Chase Ink Plus business card, Nordstrom is offering a 4 point per dollar bonus.
Accessing the U.R. portal using our Chase Sapphire card, Nordstrom is offering a 6 point per dollar bonus.
Accessing the U.R. portal using our Chase Freedom card, Nordstrom is offering a 5 point per dollar bonus.
Have you ever run into another instance of these differences? I did check a couple other stores, but they seemed to be the same across the different cards.
Yes, this is common with Chase. They often run specials with some merchants that are targeted to some, but not all of their cards.
