Spirit is out with a new sale that has a pretty amazing headline rate – 80% off base fares. That has the potential to generate some great savings, but there’s more than one catch to this sale.

- Percent discount will be applied to the base fare only, regardless of travel option selected. Additional charges may apply for “Go Savvy,” “Go Comfy,” and “Go Big” travel options. Quick Thoughts
Saving 80% sounds like a superb deal, but your savings aren’t going to be 80%. That’s because you only save 80% on the base fare, not the taxes and fees. Spirit also charges a $22.99 Passenger Usage Charge which doesn’t get reduced by 80%. I believe that’s the fee you can avoid by buying your tickets at the airport on the 23rd day following a blood moon while standing on your head and reciting the alphabet backwards in under 16.5 seconds, but the 80PCT promo code only works online and so if you want to use that promo code, you’re stuck paying the $22.99 fee.
One of the biggest downsides with this offer is that it’s only valid for travel on Tuesday and Wednesday plus, as would be expected with any airfare sale at this time of year, it excludes travel over Christmas and the New Year.
If your travel dates do align with the Tuesday/Wednesday requirement, you’ll need to book quickly because promo code 80PCT only works for travel booked today (December 3).
