Quick Thoughts
It’s great to see Dell at 15x / 15% back again, particularly for those with card benefits and card-linked offers to use. I don’t know how long this rate will last, but given that the July Amazon Prime Day deals are coming this week, I expect Dell to be running numerous deals to compete. While 15% back is great, many readers prefer to earn that as 15x Amex Membership Rewards points per dollar spent, which is possible through Rakuten.
Always check individual store/merchant pages on Rakuten for exclusions / variances. For example, I see all of the Dell categories at 15% / 15x today. However, while IHG appears to be offering 10% back / 10x points, that rate is only valid on select brands — a couple of which (avis hotels, Garner Hotels, and Atwell Suites) I’ve never even seen before.
On the other hand, Choice Privileges appears to have all brands available at 10% back / 10x Membership Rewards points per dollar spent.
Those targeted with “VIP” rates will see increases to 15% / 15x across many brands.
That said, be sure to compare rates across sites using a tool like Cashbackmonitor.com. If you’re a Capital One Shopping user, it also behooves you to compare there since it isn’t common to find high targeted rates via Capital One Shopping.
Re: using Amex Dell credit. Anyone have experience returning an item to get Dell credit? When you return does Dell give you the option to receive a credit instead of refund? Does Rakuten clawback the points if you return for credit? Any other pitfalls? Use case – I’d like to build up my Amex Dell credits to eventually use for a big item.
