This week, Staples is offering $10 off when purchasing a $50 Hotels.com gift card.
The Deal
- $10 off when you buy a $50 Hotels.com gift card
Key Terms
- In-store only
- Valid 3/26-4/1
Bottom Line
This can be a great way to save a few bucks and earn 5x on a card like the Chase Ink Plus that earns 5x at office supply stores. Note that almost all shopping portals state that cash back will not apply to hotel stays paid for with Hotels.com credit, so using your gift card will forgo your opportunity to earn about 7% back on hotels.com stays. Also note that your Staples location may or may not stock Hotels.com gift cards, so YMMV. Finally, remember that most hotel chains will not honor status benefits or give elite credit for stays booked through 3rd parties like Hotels.com. Still, at a 13% net discount plus the ability to earn 5x with the right credit card makes this a solid deal if you can find the cards.

Do you need a coupon to get the $10 off? I called my local staples who had the card in stock but is not aware of the discount. 🙁

My Austin, TX, Staples store has AirBnB cards, but no Hotels.com cards. Their printed flyer does not list a sale of any GCs. The cashiers don’t remember ever seeing Hotels.com GCs. Bummer!
The way I look at this (using a 5x card), you’re paying $38 for $50 worth. The real savings is 24%. It’d be icing on the cake to get the 7% cash back was included. Without the gift card, I’m thinking 3x on travel card + 7% cash back would only get us to 10% off.
