Frequent Miler's latest team challenge, Million Mile Madness, is almost done! The last two weeks Greg, Nick, and Stephen competed to earn 1 Million SAS miles by flying 15 airlines. But who completed the challenge with the most Speed, Affordability, and Style?
This morning, Greg posted about his latest attempt to bypass 5/24. In that post, he details the process of applying through a BRM (Business Relationship Manager) and the outcomes of the process as he faced initial rejection and filed for special consideration. Some readers questioned whether or not his rejection could be considered yet again or whether the key reason was in fact 5/24. Maybe Greg will take it back up with Chase when he returns from his current trip — but even if he gets another rejection, there may be new hope in getting past 5/24 for those with Chase business cards.
The Green Check Mark
As many readers know, in Chase’s new online interface for personal cards, the menu bar includes a section labeled “Your offers” as shown above. Notice the green check mark? That has meant that an offer has been selected for you. Within that section, if there is an image of credit cards with a green check mark, it seems that the offer for that particular card will likely bypass 5/24 based on many reports. See this post from The Travel Sisters for some detailed screen shots.
However, while Chase rolled out that updated interface for personal cards last year, those with Chase business cards (or with their personal cards tied to the same login ID as a business card) have been stuck with the old interface that does not have this offers section.
Business cards are now migrating to the new design
However, over the past couple of months, Chase has been migrating business accounts to the new web interface. My wife’s Ink Business Preferred account is still on the old interface. However, I logged into my Ink Plus account today and was surprised to see the new interface:
Stefan at Rapid Travel Chai reported yesterday that he had received an email indicating this change was coming to his account. While Stefan’s lack of enthusiasm for the new interface is understandable, Doctor of Credit looks on the bright side: This new interface may (at some point) provide access to the “Your Offers” section, thereby giving new hope to pre-selected offers that bypass 5/24 — both for those individuals who have been stuck with the old interface (because their personal accounts were tied to a business log in ID) and perhaps for business card holders in general. While I have not closely followed the offers that people have reported seeing with a green check mark, I suspect that they have all been for personal cards. Perhaps with the new interface, Greg will have new hope for a green check mark next to an offer for the Chase Ink Business Preferred :-).
But offers aren’t showing yet
All that said, I don’t see a “Your Offers” section yet, and I haven’t yet seen reports of any offers on a business log in ID. But at the very least, I imagine that those with both business and personal cards in a single log in will now eventually have access to these offers. Hopefully the offers will extend to business cards as well.
T.Norfleet just my two cents 5/24 also 2/30 with chase bank. Was approved for IHG rewards select on 7/6/17 applied for the chase freedom 5days later decline isn’t the freedom a lesser card ad far as approval goes? went through the reconsideration process nothing 5/24 is no joke with chase bank they mean it!! right? no success call 3 or 4 different times any thoughts out there just wait it out ?. thanks
Wow, is this confusing to read! Either this commenter didn’t do well in English in school or was not born a citizen of an English speak country.
I have 3 offers which are relevant to me (1. Auto Loan Refinance, 2. Chase Freedom Referral, 3. Chase Mariott Referral), BUT
I do not know how these offers are targeted and some of them are irrelevant. For Example, I do not have a CSR or CSP (courtesy 5/24), but my offer shows as follows
SHARE THE CHASE SAPPHIRE PREFERRED EXPERIENCE
EARN UP TO 50,000 BONUS POINTS PER YEAR
Invite your friends to experience Sapphire Preferred SM and get up to 50,000 bonus points. That’s 10,000 bonus points for each friend who gets the card.1
Hopefully this will help to get past the 5/24. What cards are usually promoted on the new menu?
I would just like to see them make an offer on the Chase Sapphire Reserve again so that I can apply. The current offer is kind of weak… I missed it before because I was one month outside of the 5/24, and have been patiently waiting since then. Any inside word on whether they might do something?
I’m hoping for the same thing! I haven’t applied for the Ink Business Preferred yet because I’m way over 5/24.
Articles that discuss the 5/24 issue regularly mention there are Chase cards not subject to 5/24 limitations for approval while failing to mention that they still count as part of the 5/24 limitation for other Chase cards (eg. CSR). I think this causes widespread confusion.
Do you think there is widespread confusion on that? I guess I thought that most readers understand the distinction between the number of new accounts you’ve opened and approvals that either are or aren’t limited by that number. I’m not doubting that some people may be confused, as there will always be people new to the hobby (we were probably all a little confused by a lot of things when we first got started in this hobby), but would we call confusion over 5/24 widespread? If so, I’ll certainly consider linking to our guide to 5/24 in the future. There are number of concepts related to credit cards that could be confusing for a beginner, for example the difference between a charge card and a credit card. But I don’t always explain that distinction in every post about either a credit card or charge card under the assumption that the majority of readers are probably familiar with the distinction. That said, I’ll definitely take your thoughts into account the next time I write a post about this as our goal is obviously to limit confusion and maximize clarity. Thanks for your suggestion.
In my reading, I think the confusion comes mostly from people who are new to the credit card churning hobby, and/or those who simply want to be spoon-fed all of the answers.
I believe those who spend any amount of time reading and learning on their own “get” Chase among the first things they learn, and rather quickly at that. The information is widespread and hard to miss.
My personal accounts have never had a preapproved card in the green-checked offers, which instead offered banking services decidedly inferior to those I get routinely in the mail.
One of my two business accounts was migrated several weeks ago, and all my green check mark offers are garbage in the same vein.
My one data point doesn’t mean others won’t get great offers that bypass 5/24, but I definitely wouldn’t hold my breath in anticipation.
I’m hoping for the best!
You and me both 🙂
