Twitter user @FlyinJaT tweeted us a picture of an upcoming IHG deal: 50% off award stays at select hotels in Mexico, the Caribbean, and Latin America for bookings made between August 6th and August 12th for stays from August 7th to October 27th, 2017.

Quick Thoughts
IHG has been running this promotion off and on for a while now, but it can be a solid deal for the right properties. I see two all-inclusive properties on the list, the Holiday Inn Resort Ixtapa and the Holiday Inn Resort Los Cabos (remember that bookings at the promotional rate are not yet live). Remember that fall is the stormy season in the Caribbean, but award stays should be subject to normal cancellation policy (check the cancellation policy when booking) and weather certainly can be fine. Many of these hotels would be a solid value at half off using IHG points. If you’re thinking about a late summer or early fall trip for some sunshine, mark your calendar to book on August 6th.

Not a deal at all. I checked prices on 4 hotels and prices are half cash price anyway and 3 of 4 the cash price cheaper than half award price if value points at 7 cents
Then you’re not looking very hard. I’ve checked 3 places, and all 3 of them would be more than 1 cent per point value (IC Cozumel, Holiday Inn Resort Los Cabos, and HIR Ixtapa). Probably depends on what dates you are looking for, too. I was just searching for easy availability in September, but that is prime hurricane season, so I guess you get what you pay for 🙂
Also Mike, were you talking the reward rate and cutting it in half? The sale doesn’t start until Sunday, so those points reflect regular price.
“Is this hurricane season ?” Seriously?
It’s right smack in the heart of the absolute peak hurricane season. They run similar promos during peak hurricane season every year.
A little rain? – sure, no problemo. A major storm? – ¡Que lastima!
Some of these are very nice properties – I’m headed to one of them in February. But there’s no way I would ever book a vacation to this region at the peak of the hurricane season.

How is the diving this time of year (assuming the dive boats aren’t torn out of the water by a sharknado) ??
There are some bargains here, especially if you’re spending most of the day underwater anyway – a bit of rain won’t hurt !!
