Quick Thoughts
This could be a good deal provided the prices are in line with what you would pay elsewhere. I haven’t priced out a rental through this promotion, but I do always compare prices against what I find through Autoslash.com (which is where I usually shop around before booking).
This promotion is less generous than the recent targeted Hertz promotion for more than 5K United miles per rental without the three-day requirement. I was able to take advantage of a couple of one-day rentals through that promotion that yielded more than 5,000 miles.
At the end of the day, this utility of this promotion will vary greatly depending on your dates and local prices, but it’s always good to check multiple sources to get the best overall deal.
[…] Up to 5K AA miles with car rental (Rental must start by 10/15/17) […]
As always check the rates you can get with and without this offer. I generally find you are paying more than you would expect for the “free” miles when I compare.
Also keep in mind of course that AA miles are very nearly useless these days since award availability is so bad. No sure I’d even value an AA mile at a penny each anymore.
Do you have any idea how to verify how many AA points one would actually get by doing this promo? I went through all the steps yesterday, got to the end and it doesn’t indicate anywhere how many points I would get for the rental. Notice the promo is for “up to” 5,000 miles per rental, which makes me nervous! When I click through on similar Southwest promos, it always tells you exactly how many points will be earned by the specific rental.
