If you’ve been following the Prime Day Deals at Amazon, you’ve seen that there have been some great deals that get better if you are able to apply the recent targeted offer for 20% off when paying with at least 1 Membership Rewards point. If you already used that up or weren’t targeted, there is a second similar offer with coupon code AMEXSWP20PD. Even better, as you may have noticed in an earlier post, both deals are taking off more than 20% sometimes. That’s because in some cases, the codes are taking 20% off the original price rather than the discounted price — resulting in some great deals. This post has some – be on the lookout for more. Note that the Amazon links in this post are affiliate links, but remember that you may be able to earn portal rewards in some categories. Also note that if you check the historical pricing on camelcamelcamel.com, you’ll find that all of the deals linked below are at historical lows.

You may recognize the headphones above from a Quick Deal last night (See: Great deal: Bose QC 25 for $85.40 w/ stacking promos). In that deal, I said the headphones would come down to $85.40. What I hadn’t paid attention to at the time of writing was the fact that while both the Apple and Android versions are currently on sale for $125 before the 20% discount, they have different “original” prices. The Android version (used in my previous post ) had an original price of $198 — thus the 20% off discount was taking off about $40 for a final price of $85.40 before tax. As you can see above, the Apple version has an “original” price of $279 — and thus the 20% off code is subtracting $55.80 from the sale price of $125, bringing the final total before tax to $69.20. That’s a pretty amazing deal on this set. And it’s not the only one out there.

Second 20% off promo

Dan’s Deals notes that there is a second Amex promotion for 20% off that is separate from the one we wrote about a week ago. This one requires you to pay with at least 1 Membership Rewards point and add coupon code AMEXSWP20PD. Word is that this deal may work for people who maxed out the previous 20% off promo and/or may work for those who weren’t targeted for that one. There’s no guarantee — but it’s worth a shot.

Some example deals

I’m listing some example deals below. I’m including both the “original” price and “Prime Day” sale price crossed out so you can see the math on the discount coming from 20% off of the “original” price rather than the sale price — making for a deal that’s even better than 20% off the Prime Day price. I verified that at the time of writing, each of these deals worked with the original 20% off Amex deal when paying with at least 1 point at the “final price” shown below. A number of these are products I own or similar models, which is why I included them.

• Coravin Model Limited Edition Wine Preservation System: Original price $304.97 Prime Day sale price: $174 Final sale price: $113.90 (This is an interesting device that allows you to “access” your wine without popping the cork. I own one of these (resold a quantity of them). It’s not perfect, but it’s not bad. As I was typing this, I got up to pour a glass from a bottle I first tapped about two weeks ago and it tastes perfectly good. I haven’t gotten the claimed months out of a bottle, but neither am I storing in the correct conditions. At this price, I think it’s worth it if you prefer not to drink an entire bottle in one sitting. This is a better price than what I was stacking when I was reselling them).

When our son really won’t fall asleep for a nap, my wife puts him in the stroller and pushes him down the rail trail with this and he falls asleep almost without fail. The Segway-branded version at $299.99 is a very good deal.).

There are many, many more deals possible. In order for this promotion to stack, the item you’re buying must be shipping and sold by Amazon. Sold by someone else and fulfilled by Amazon will not work. Here is a link to all Prime Day Deals. Look for items with significantly higher “original” prices for stacking opportunities (keeping in mind the max discount of $100 — so max original price of $500 to max it out).

Many of the above deals are great for personal use but could be equally great for resale purposes — you could knock out a chunk of minimum spend while leaving yourself plenty of margin to recoup your money on a number of those items.
